I haven't tried the Raytools yet, but I think the problem really comes down to the two errors about mRenderOptions and lights. Looks like there's a node you need to add somewhere to set up the .mi export options, and maybe Raytools requires lights to be set up a certain way. In Mental Ray, like in Renderman, lights are actually just another type of shader, so maybe lights have to have a Raytools-specific node to set this up.
Hope you can figure it out:)

Im getting the same error.
Although I managed to get rid of the :
d> // Warning: [mr-WRN]: EXPORT: No mrRenderOptions nodes exist //
d> // Warning: [mr-WRN]: EXPORT: No prepared lights; trying to translate //
errors .
It still can't find the iff file.
If anyone finds a solution to this please let me know.
thanks

can you send a test file so I can tell if eveything is working on my box.
I can't seem to render anything but all the stuff seem to be working right.

The problem is not the two "error"-s. Actually, those are not errors but warnings. Both the mrRenderOptions and light preparation is optional, so it's not really a problem.
When I installed raytolls i had the same behaviour and it turned out, that the environment variables were causing the problem. I had to set them manually in windows (see installation instructions).
Also check if mental ray is running properly (use raypipe, so you can see the error messages).
True, it's a bit tricky to set up this demo... :)

I got it working.
Dan I sent you my scene file , if anyone else needs it to test let me know.
Still working on trying to control the render quality, but from what I've seen so far I's absolutely awesome.
My only problem is that I can't get the render displayed in the separate img_disp thingy which means I can't see the render update. And only view it afterwards in the render view
If anyone knows a solution to this please let me know.

Okay, so, I have the following env. variables set in windows:
SI_HOME D:\Softimage\XSI_1.5\
MI_ROOT D:\Softimage\XSI_1.5\Application\rsrc
MAMI_HOME c:\raytools
Also very important:
The ".../raytools/bin" and ".../Application/bin" should be included in the path!
Check it by typing r2 and ray2 in the command line. You should be able to start those in any directory.
And one more, are there any exported .mi files in the temp directory?
P.s.: I'm using plain 4.0 Maya not 4.01, but i dont think it's important in this case.

Hi ,
Dan Dixon maybe it's already working couse the error about the missing iff file is not from mental ray but from the app that is used to display the image. Switch the preview render to "render view" at the render dropdown menu. Then test the scene I sent you or make your own just make sure your lights are setup for mentalray couse if their not you'll just get a black image .
If anyone knows how to get that error out of the display app let me know. :)
