Well here's my final entry for HMC#10, what I learnt from this challenge is that I really need to learn how to use my software properly. I rushed into Zbrush without really knowing what I was doing. hence the untextured model. I'm still happy with it as it was my first attempt at organic modelling.

Here is my entry for the Encounters and animal habitat HMC #10. Its called giraffe running. I used maya 8.5 to create base mesh, then used z brush to add some details to mesh. Textureing is done in photoshop CS and lighting and rendering in mental ray/maya software. Grass and trees are painteffects.

I guess this is it!
Whoopsy, the text description, I almost forgot that.
"Limited Edition Genghis Attacks Commemorative Bronze Statue"
Let me introduce you to Genghis, resident male Bengal Tiger of the Ranthambhore National Park, India. Now Genghis was minding his own business, leasurely walking past the ruins of an old fort when suddenly a very loud noise could be heard and something impacted rather violently right in front of him on the ground and sprayed his face with debris. Alarmed, he quickly charged off into the cover of the nearby high grass.
Now, as you can imagine the impact was a bullet fired at him and the perpetrator was a pocher. In this case it was a rich Gangster Rapper from the Hood, who felt it necessary to add "Big Game Hunting" to his manly player credits and had bribed the local officials to get a guaranteed shot at a capital tiger. Since he missed his shot and the rifle jammed directly after that and Genghis took off into cover, our millionaire rapper was of course quick to appoint blame for the missed opportunity to everybody else except himself. In the commotion ensuing during the argument who was at fault, nobody noticed Genghis approaching. Now it was Genghis's turn to take a shot at our tough mofo from the hood.
To commemorate the sad demise of said rapper, you can now own the limited edition "Genghis Attacks" bronze statue, as illustrated with a few images below. If all goes well, this nice collectible will be available as well in Meji-style bronze on an oval display stand with some bamboo plants added for ambiance. For more information please contact your favorite fine arts store! ;)
Great work everybody this was a great challenge!

Really enjoyed this challenge. Until i got to the feet, which i never succedded in conquering. I may revisit the otter at some point, and change the base, so that the feet would be easier to sculpt. It just got the point where I couldn't bring myself to do it anymore. I'll upload a turntable before judging.

Holy crap I finished. However I do, that is enough. What did I learn, never switch your software in the middle of a project. I already knew this rule but apparently I needed a refresher. That and I need to learn texturing in ZBrush much better.

I just realized, why wasn't one of the five main categories for "Best Captured motion"? The contest was centered around that concept.

That is a VERY good point.

Best Interaction Between Animals - pixelranger (Lion attacking a Wildebeest)
Best Environment - Nemoriko (Shark vs Octopus)
Best WIP thread -KrakenCMT (Greyhound Race)
Most Accurate Likeness - Quadart (Kudu Charge) - Honorable mention: KrakenCMT (Greyhound Race) - A great likeness it was hard to choose this one because I really like the greyhound models and the likeness is just about as close Quadart's (Kudu Charging), but I do have to say that Quadart's has the best likeness here just by a hair (literally).
Most Expressive Model - pixelranger (Lion attacking a Wildebeest) - Honorable mention: Animastur (Lion and Zebra) - a very expressive model here... though some of the likenesses (photorealistically) needs a bit of work, though I guess if you were going for more of a stylized approach, this would be a great example. This choice was just as tough because of the stylized expression shown.
Best Overall - Quadart (Kudu Charge)
All Great models here... I should have done this one though I didn't really get the drive to start, that and I really couldn't decide what I would have done in time to do anything... I was going to try and make a model in the last week, but I had a few things come up.
Another model in here that I was hoping would be in here is the Mountain Lion by Gra7. This one was a great model that I would have liked to have seen finished but I guess that will be for another time... infact I was going to do a Cougar to rival this one...

The final model depicts a wildebeest (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wildebeest) being taken down by a lion. The model is showing them as they are tumbling on the ground after the lion has jumped it during a high speed pursuit.
I really wish I'd had much more time on this, but it was a very fun challenge. I learned alot about Zbrush, anatomy and about sculpting. This was achieved both by trial and error, but also by following the other threads in the challenge. Alot of great work were the outcome of this challenge.
Thank you for your comments everyone and good luck on the next one ;) I'm really looking forward to it.
And the Winner..
