I'm trying to create a sprite based grass system and I'm hitting some stumbling blocks with Maya's sorting and sprite system. The grass is designed to be viewable in real-time in the viewport so I won't be using the Maya Software renderer. Ideally I want to have multiple texture files on sprites and have grass randomly interspersed with flowers and other plant types.
Unfortunately I'm having issues implementing this. I've yet to find a per particle UV option for selecting a random image from a texture page and as far as I'm aware there's no way of randomly swapping a shader between sprites. If I use multiple particle systems for multiple textures then I get really bad sorting problems as Maya seems unable to correctly depth sort two different sprite systems in real time.
Does anyone have any suggestions for getting around this?
