i remember talk of a sequel to Tron back when the game Tron 2.0 was being made [which is a great game!]
from what i remembered, the same guy who wrote Tron was back to write this one and it was about someone going into the grid to make the biggest hack ever.
i'm all up for a new Tron. there is so much new tech and terminology sine the first movie for them to dive into. i also remember hearing rumors of Pixar doing a CG Tron movie... while that would be cool, probabley just some fanboys dreaming.
see ya on the game grid program...

A few days ago, I saw the Tron costume that was exhibited at the Science Fiction Museum in Seattle. It's just a white costume with the circuit patterns printed on it in black. I know Lisberger went through a lot of rigamarole with filming the actors on high-contrast film stock and using the circuitry patterns to generate mattes which were backlit with colored gels. But even though CGI and SFX have made huge advances since 1982, even if Tron were filmed today, couldn't the costumes just be practical effects where the circuits are made with fluorescent paint or Scotchbrite?

Heh, when they were talking about this a few years back I tried to think of what might be interesting. My line of thought was something like this:
"Hmm. Maybe someone gets trapped in the TRON system and someone else has to go in and get them out. The guy could be like a hacker or something, so he could, like, control TRON in interesting ways. Oh, and it should be an action movie, they could like have kung fu battles or something."
Then I realized I was talking about The Matrix. :banghead:

shitty remake.
classic/ original one is always the best. as usual with remakes, just trying to cash in.

kinda hard to be a "shitty remake" when it hasn't even been made yet.
yes, originals will always have places in our hearts [Star Wars, Transformers...] but a new Tron has so much potential since they have so much more tech [in movie content and CG tech] to make one hell of a sequel.

I think they should make a sequel but they have to use the same special FX techniques they used in 1981. I be interested to see what an FX artist today would do with the technology and tools of that time. Plus, you can throw all of the money and polygons you want into making this film, but IMO, the more slick the FX are, the farther you're getting from the magic of TRON. K.I.S.S.

You mean, hire a bunch of Taiwanese animators to paint traveling mattes by hand? No thanks!

I'm so stoked! :applause:
I thought that they had decided against it due to the bad sales of the game they produced.

I'd rather they remade the original. Make no mistake, it's great as it is, but I can't help but feel that a sequel using modern day tech would just look weird sat next to the first film.
I'd rather they refreshed the original Tron and then perhaps created a sequel based upon this new cast and aesthetic. You could then write furthur stories into the plotline from the off, instead of tacking them on for what I believe will be perceived as making a quick buck.

no sequels however a good remake with good acting would be good, for me.
If they made a sequel they would do the same thing again (maybe even with a kid) or something or his son or somehow make it corny like many sequels are from oldie but goodie movies.

To think they were breaking new ground shows you how far things have come. Now you could probably create the SFX for Tron over your lunch break.

In the commentary track on the 20th Anniversary DVD, Steven Lisberger said "we could make this movie today for $25,000."
