Hello,

I've just completed a walk cycle wich I used to test my rig for this character. I'm open for comments...

walk cycle animation (http://www.kleimdesign.com/flash/assets/char2.AVI)

I'm thinking my next animation I will have him carrying some plutonium in a VERY cautious- tip toe walk.

Not bad, but you need a lot more movement in the hips, and he feels more like a bouncing ball, rather than a human with weight. A bit of tweaking should take care of that :p

Cheers,

Jens

I agree about the hips so I got him wiggling them some more...

as for the bouncing ball effect...I assume your refering to the COG motion? Any thoughts on best way to alter this to achieve a better result? Keep in mind its more of a cartoony character than realistic human.

yeah the hip bit was a bit off, looking alot better now.. but there is still something, think I have figured out what it is. Its the backpack, it looks heavy but he doesnt move like it is heavy... the center of mass is too far back

but screw that it looks good all the same :D:thumbsup:

You were absolutely right, I rotated his COG and hunched his shoulders slightly then compared the two animations and its very apparent his COG wasn't matching his shape. So here is another reworked animation with the COG matching better...

altered COG and shouders (http://www.kleimdesign.com/flash/assets/charwalk4.avi)

Thanks for the feedback so far guys, its great!

The legs are poping...what kind of look do you want in the walk?

You have right now just a walk cycle, what are you planing to make it special? Less gravity could be a nice idea:thumbsup:

always anoying how things look perfect untill you try some other way ;) Its looking realy good now

now what else..... dont know about this one either, but his steps seem a bit too light, or not, not sure though and not sure how to change it

could you do me a favor :) post your rig setup, thats what I'm trying to learn at the moment :P

This walk cycle is just to test the rig. As for what I plan to do to make it more interesting...

I want to have him carrying a beaker of green glowing goo while walking VERY cautious, tip toeing. Maybe carrying it with a pair of tongs. Should be fun.

well, best I can do is show you how it looks rather than explain it all cause there is quite a bit there. Using icons is a big help for good workflow, and I can't rave enough about IK FK switching, its wonderful for working with constraints.

A great help to you would be going ...HERE... (http://www.digital-dreams.net) and downloading the free IK joe character that makes use of one the best rigs around (as far as I know). I use alot of those concepts in my rigs Some of it is a little overkill but it all depends on your needs. Best way to learn is rip it apart peice by peice which is what I did.

Also on that site is a number of tutorials having to do with rigging including IK FK switching.

Hope all that helps!!
