Maybe old news but give this a try:

It's so much easier to setup complex material structures and make quick alterations, real time saver. I'll bet this will end up in max as the default mat. edit one day :)

If not ShaderFX...which seems much more mature...plus it has documentation, which I have yet to find for NodeJoe.

ShaderFX is for HLSL stuff iirc, NodeJoe is for max's own materials.

there is also the SME which works quite well and u can also not just maps but float values and some other things that i think you cant do yet with nodejoe...
