Hi everyone...

A buddy that I've worked through in the past has just revised 3DTextureWorld.com (http://www.3dtextureworld.com) and asked me to get thoughts from people in the community. It's a subscription-based website ($50/yr.) with 800+ textures, royalty-free for commercial use. There will also be a forum where you can request textures and images.

sooo...i was wondering what you think of the price, the number of textures, the request idea, etc... is there anything that you're looking for in a texture resource that you haven't found yet? Let me know your thoughts! :)

thanks,
tallmike.

Looks like he has a lot of material in there.

My 2 cents is there are a ton of free photo textures on the web already. The subscription would have to offer me something beyond what I get from these other sites, like exceptional quality (many of the photos I saw were not taken in great light), really good organization (more specific categories), a good search engine (using metadata keywords stored with the images), easy download (each folder is a ZIP, or maybe send me a CD), to name a few ideas.

I haven't looked in depth at the site, so I couldn't tell if some of these features are there already or not.

Not sure about the tiled textures. Are they displayed in a 4x tile, or are they displayed as-is? If so, the tiling artifacts are too obvious. Looks like one of those auto-tiler Photoshop plugins. I expect tiled textures to look as good as MarlinStudios' CDs.

In general I found it difficult to navigate the site. Too many distracting things all vying equally for attention.

Although many of the textures look like they would be very useful.

Here's one of the free sites that's organized well. The textures are hit and miss, some great, some not-so-great. But there's a ton, the navigation's well-designed (images vs. textures, lots of categories, easy to click through, etc.), the search functions are great.
