aside from maybe adding a bit more noise to have it much up a little better with the photo's grain... i'd say it's pretty right on :thumbsup:

It is very hard to tell which building is CG so it looks like you did your job! I assume that it is just the building in the middle. Just a touch more grain would help it to blend some more but other than that it is excellent work!

Wow, thatīs a great job man; only suggestion is that seem to me, youīve added the building shadow, and forgot to retouch the top of the cars that are on the street, and before seem to have direct sun over them, so they are like glowing in the shadow.

But man, itīs just a datail, the hole image itīs very convincent.

The image looks really cool.

But the shadows look a bit strange to me.
Shouldn't the angles of all shadows be the same?

I marked it in your picture what i mean:

Red are the natural shadows
Green is the CG shadow

That's awesome STRAT!!!!!! Have you used C4D as usual for rendering? That shadow needs some work tho, fix it and it will be totally photorealistic :)

What that shadow problem looks like to me is that biggest building in the back is casting that shadow...but not casting it on that building in the middle (think thats a real building?) and i think its too dark.. and the edges of the shadow are too strong.... looks like the angle of that shadow is also off... but that is the only problem... fix that and i think it will look like a photo :)

It's unbelievable real looking in this resolution. What's the production resolution? Those shadow problems are only visible after studying the image for some time, and I don't think the normal audience will notice them.

You should use a direct light, and put the light source higher, the shadows doesn't match. The integration is really well done, now it's just time for tweakings.

Amazing work. Had to really stare at it to see which building (s?) were CG.

I noticed a blurred shadow area at the top of the white building, but again. I was staring.

I have to agree with Harald. Great looking image but this is the one thing that reall looks strange to me. A little noise might be good too. :)

AWSOME composite...the only thing i noticed were the shadow angles and intensity...seems like the natural ones fall off a bit, and the cg one goes too far onto the building thats closest to us.

Otherwise awsome...i had to look hard to find the shadow inconsistancies

Great Job but theres another problem in the shadows witch is the building inside the shadow made by CG model... wasnt supose to be darken? it has some places iluminated by the sun

Maby I'm wrong since nobody else has mentioned this but there seems to be an odd thing (rendering-texturing glitch) at the top of the building, the section of the building that is pointing straight towards the camera (on the roof) has a strange line running across it. In the same area there is a bit that looks like it has a plane lambert material. The same section looks a little fuzzy to me as well (don't know if that would be DOF though)

I agree with the shadow orientation and length needing to be tweeked.

Not sure if I misunderstood a previous post, and someone has already included this in their comments, but there are some 'double shadows' - the fake cast shadow was applied on top of some real cast shadows, in reality any two shadows cast from the same light will merge... I also think that fake shadow is maybe slightly too light.

Otherwise very well done! :)

the line is no texturing error is a drop on the roof design. you can see the same thing on the other side of the building from a better angle.

excellent job! I wouldn't have ever known there was anything fishy about it if nobody else pointed it out :D

this area shows a couple of details that could easily be improved.

I marked an area that is too clean, it needs a texture.
Also the wall right below it receives too much light.

The dotted line is just to show what a comparative shadow would look like for the cg building. Like Steven said, even with the direction of the shadow your cg bulding casts, you can still see the original shadow below, and the difference is very strong.

Try modeling boxes that represent the surrounding structures, algin the shadows, this may correct your perspective, because it may be off be a little, although it's not a big deal.
You'll notice where shadows overlap and then decide how to merge the shadows.

this is an up-date of a job i did about a year or so back. more info can be found here in my cgarchitect thread - http://www.cgarchitect.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=4;t=000193

there are shadow annomolies, ur all right. the original photo was given to me by the client at a resolution of only 800x600 px 72 dpi, so i had to blow it up best i could.
Also, it's camera lens was most difficult to gauge, so after a long time sorting out where lights and camera matching should be it totally pissed me off some what. nobody's perfect eh? :rolleyes:

anyway, as you can see from the stills there are a shed load of shadow/matte plains in the model, and i've also ammended the shape of the shadow being cast on the main building's roof in the foreground too.

it's all modelled in AutoCAD, tweeked/camera matched and shadow plained in max and rendered in cinema 4d. final resolution is 2000x1500 px.

havent any time for tuts i'm afraid, but similar stuff of mine can either be found at cgarchitect.com or by looking at an older tut i did a couple years ago - http://homepage.ntlworld.com/sjleworthy/wp-02/front.html
it's a bit old and i dont go in for personal web sites.

Coming from an architecture vizualization background this is some of the best intergration with a photo I have seen.

We are picking your image apart with the shadows and such because we as artists that have done that kind of work, know what to look for to find out if it is CG or not. and also to you critiques to watch for next time
The average person would have no idea that the building is fake.

cbutlerc - i understand completely. i'd do the same. if i'd have thought about posing here (or in cgarchitect) during time of creating the image i would have put more time and effort into the shadows (they've always bugged me to be honest)

awesome modelling, about the shadows, technically when u render the image its usually through a camera, which has perspective, soemtimes changes things in weird ways, still looks good, great modelling once again. I cant imagine how long that took to complete...

very nice job.. it is very close to real life! i really like the lighting

1st time, i couldnt find which is CG and which is real. But after some thinking, i found that the tall building is CG. the reason was that the shadow of that building is not in the same direction as other buildings.. its shadow it is not parallel to other shadows.

if you make the shadow of the building parraller to other shadows.. it will be a real building:thumbsup:

If you look at the cars in the shadow of the building, you can see that something is wrong. If I were you, i would try to remove the highlights on the car roofs, so it doesn't just look like a dark picture.

I also think that the side of the building that is facing you is too bright. Look at the building with the weird roof in the lower right part of the pricture. The windows are darker, and the white color near the street is more blueish. Shadows often have a blueish tone, and look at the cars in the shadows. No highlights.

The overall of the building stands out because of the warm colors. There's a greenish tone to it, while the rest of the picture is reddish. The contrasts are also bigger because of the sunlight.

All this is just minor details.
Great work, I wish I could do the same.
