View Full Version : Render nodes under one copy of C4D
Boone 09-09-2007, 11:33 AM I'm currently looking at both Cinema4D and another app(which I shall leave unnamed so that we keep on topic) for my next animation project.
I'm in favour of C4D due to its stability, friendly interface and rendering power. However, I only have a budget of around £500(though I would be willing to stretch a bit further) for a package and I assume that the C4D core package contains a full solution, so to speak.
It seems to meet my needs, but I am unsure as to how many render nodes I will get for a single copy of the core package. I'm considering purchasing a second PC solely for rendering but not in love with the idea of having to buy two copies of a 3D package.
Any advice would be appreciated.

The core package has 1 render node.
XL bundle has 3
Studio unlimited
You can buy the net render mdule and add it to the core package. This has unlimited nodes.

At £270 thats not bad, but would NET Render take away all the hassles of setup that I hear so much about? I'm assuming that NET Render is applied to a Network of machines connected by Ethernet, but can it do rendering over the internet as well?
Also, given that they would both use WindowsXP, could I use a Desktop and a Notepad with Net Render?
Last thing: Does the C4D core package come with solutions for Hair'n'fur and particles? I'm asuming that they are minimal due to the modules that can be added...

As far as I know you can't render over the internet.
You can use any machine you like you can even use a mixture of PC's and macs.
The core package doesn't have hair but it does haver a basic particle system.
If you are only going to have one more machine on the network then you may want to contemplate upgrading your computer rather than setting up a two machine render farm.
You may get more bangs for your bucks. Just something for you to look into.
You can read up on some info here.

actually you can over the internet but you will need to know a little bit about port forwarding and things like that for your routers.
what makes internet rendering normally unworkable is the extremely slow connection speeds of the average user's ISP connection with the upload/download of the source scene file and textures - tiny little project files will probably transfer and render fine - and even a fair size rendered image result .b3d may be passed back to the NET Server ok - but anything over a few megabytes in size and you will most likely soon have timeout issues with the NET clients talking to the NET Server

I was correct then.;) Well until we get super light speed web connections.
