View Full Version : Meshtools 3!
DDrake 04-03-2003, 01:04 PM Ok, excuse me if it has been said before.
I recently found Meshtools 3 for Max 5 on the second cd that comes with 3dsmax.
Everything works pretty well.

DDrake, if you want to use CSPOLytools you are better off using meshtools 2.5, as 3.0 won't work properly with any additional scripts based on the meshtools script.

If you noticed as well, meshtools 3 actually has LESS features than 2.5.
It's just an integration for max 5. It gets rid of some redundant features.
Thanks for sharing, though. I'm amazed that you found that...it's buried pretty deep. :D

do the cspolytools connect as the old meshtools? the max integrated connect just sucks, there are two ways to get it proper connected.. just connect every two points or delete/remove the ugly edges you get between 4 Points... that just sucks and makes everything much slower :/

No, sadly, in my experience, the connect is still messed up.
I'm glad I'm not the only one here who feels that way. Such a pain in the butt.

Yeah, they were hidden but not invisible :D
Also, i have found an script (not in the max cds) that improves the cut tool a 100% (Like the maya one) It is called CleanCut and you can find it on the authors webpage (http://www.rh3d.tk/)
Hope that helps!

Rock on, DDrake! Thanks for that. I'll have to check it out...I love it when people share like this. :D
Oh, and BTW, I just added a "new" technique to my "Theoretical Sub-D" thead if you're interested.
Speaking of which, can you post that script link on that thread as well? Just so it does'nt get lost as quickly as usual?
Thanks!

Not sure if people know about this or not, but there's also MJPolytools and Polymagus...

Some cool tools.

Never seen 'em before, but I've heard of 'em and then forgot to DL.
Thanks so much, man, it's good stuff.
Can you post it on the sticky thread titled "Theoretical Sub-D" at the top of the forum? That would rock.
Again, thanks!

I got really tired of the context sensitive connect command in max as I wanted to map it to a hot key so I just mapped the meshtools 3 connect to "C" and now I can connect whatever I like with out having to map connect edges to one key and connect verts to another as you'd have to if you used the commands available in Max.
The only sucky thing about MJPoly is that I don't think the Max version has any icons, so quad insetion is ok, but toolbar usage is a pain as the text gets truncated.
Herman Saksano has some really cool polysculpting scripts that use the Max paint api. His advanced painter is very cool also.

the max5 standard connect depends not on any subobject, you can use it with edges, verts, polies etc...
you want to put the tools in a toolbar? i dunno i had my meshtools first in an extrabar, but the quads+shortcuts way is much faster than any toolbar i guess
i dunno but i'm using the mjpolytools only for the multiloopsplit, thats just a great feature!

Maybe I wasn't clear in explaining what I was trying to do..
I was trying to map a hot key to the connect command. You are correct in that the connect button in the editpoly rollout is not sub object context dependent but the hotkey commands are <if you go to customize your hotkey layout>.
If you try to map the connect commands in the editpoly toolset to a hotkey you end up having to map two of them because one works on edges and the other on verts. This is what I found, it could have been a bug in v5 or I might have been mapping the wrong commands, I do know I spent alot of time messing with it.
If you use the meshtools connect command and map it to a hotkey then there is no problem and you can connect anything with one hotkey.
Max is a great tool, I love it!
ahaha i know what you mean :D
i just didn't remember that i currently have the meshtools command on hotkey/quad and not the maximplemented version :)

The csDissolve in cspolytools doesn't work in Max 5, Does anybody experience the same problem ??

Alot of CSPolytools functions won't work when you have "show end result" toggled on.
Perhaps it's that.
I don't remember what csdissolve does...I know I don't use it.

I fixed two of the tools I use out of the CSPolytools set for MT 3 and MAX 5.1, Untangle & Dissolve. I'm not at my box so I can't pack them for this forum into a single DL at the moment, however, if you are willing to goto the Discreet MAXboard and search for "Benjamin Slack" or "Revamped CSPolytools..." in the MAXScript Library, you will find them. Make sure to use the most recent scripts (you may have to dig through to the end of the thread). Should work just fine with ERT on or off. Post any issues you discover.

can you connect as much vertices as you want and get wuads and not stupid tris?
