View Full Version : Photoshop CS3 and creating Nozzles in Corel Painter - Problem
Mugzemet 09-08-2007, 10:20 AM Hello,
I had a very strange behaviour while trying to creat nozzle in Painter.
I opened an image in photoshop CS3, created a path, selected the path area and copied the object to a new document and saved it (one transparent layer).
I than open it in Painter and tried to create nozzle as i alwyas do (group the layer, create nozzle form group etc.). Everything went well till i add it to the nozzle library and tried to use it. It drew the object but with a black fill.
I tried to save the image via painter and start the whole proecess again but it didn't helped.
I than realized that only thing that changed since my last nozzle making was photoshop version so i reopened the image in Photoshop CS2, copied the object, saved it again and started the whole nozzle creating process again. This time it was behaving as always and i got my Nozzle whihc of course rised up questins.
I also tested a different attitude, with a saved selection, but got the same resutls. the only thing that helped was to open it under CS2 and save the image form there.
anyone knows, or saw this issue or can tell me why it happens?
thank you

In order to display an image in your post, it will need to be uploaded to a website.
The files you attempted to display are still on your own computer.

Hello Mugzemet.
What version of Painter are you using? Regardless, try this as a simpler method.
First, create your image-layer in Photoshop however you choose, with a path or mask or with a brush, etc. Save that file.
Next, remove/delete any paths or masks and save a backup "nozzle" version of that file. The file should contain nothing more than the image-layer. No mask. No path. No selection.
I have no problem creating nozzles from CS3 files. My best guess is Painter is recognizing the path and treating it as a Shape, including the default fill for shapes.
See if this doesn't help.

This is a flower i took a piture of.
I created a path, select only the flower, copied it from it's background to a new document (so there is no path, no maske, no nothing), saved is as a psd file and opent it in Painter (x).
In painter I have 2 layers. the canvas, and the layer with the flower.
I grouped the flower layer and choose "make nozzle from group"
and here here the strange thing:
usually, it gives me a black background around the flower, now, it shows me the full image, as if it remembered the other part of the image that i cleared earlier.
I tried to draw a simple line in painter, just to make sure the nozzle are working fine, and they are.
This is why i thought that it must be something in photoshop.
How come it shows me the unexisted background?
i'm so frustrated. I've been making nozzles for 10 years now, and i've never seen this phenomena before.
thanks
:)

Why frustrated? What you are seeing is simply the difference in the way Photoshop and Painter handle layers. It really doesn't matter what you see that is "unexisted." All the matters is that the nozzle works, which it is now if I read you correctly :)
(If you were to create a drop shadow for that flower, the PS background would disappear.)

i'm still very frustrated.

screenshot of the problem (http://cafe.themarker.com/view.php?t=165009)
i also mange to upload it here at my portfolio, and indeed, creating drop shadow made the background disapper but the problem is still there...
