Looks Great! Only crit : it'd seem like the lightning would generate some rim lighting on the tower and stairs - couldn't tell from the wip if this had been done - the links were taken down in the thread.

edit: Never mind [shrug]! who knows.

thats is very nice indeed. I really like the texturing work you put into it and the surrounding environment is a definite plus. My only crit is you need a character or two in the scene (bah, but thats just being picky:))

Great Work! One of the first pics I saw in Cinema 4d was a camp of tents in the snow with some skeletons lying around it. It was an ad around 98 or 99 I think. You know when you see a pic you really like and it just gets burnt into memory. Well here goes another. Does that sound stupid? Perhaps I have been sitting here to long. Great Job I really like it!

I don't post one-word responses to people's work, like "Awesome :buttrock:". They don't contribute to anything. Look at the flip-side. If it were bad and someone said, "That sucks!" It's not very helpful, is it?

Don't get me wrong, it IS good. I like what you did with the background image you put in there, and many other things too. I dish out my critiques in laundry-list fashion. Here's a few things that could make it better, for your consideration:

The windmill in the background could use a little drop in contrast, maybe some depth of field, since there's more atmosphere between it and the viewer.

You sould experiment with the depth of field for the scene. The background especially could benefit from it. Given the low light, a real camera would need a wider aperture setting, which narrows the depth of field for the shot, and more stuff outside that focal range would be fuzzy. At the same time, the bright light source would overexpose that one spot of the film, giving you an aura around the light, and around the lightning especially.

Again, given the low, diffused light, the shadows in the scene look a little too dark and contrasty. I can tell you have already taken this into consideration, but a little less contrast would flatten the objects a little more (like in a real storm).

The raindrop hits are a nice touch, but I noticed that they abruptly stop at the stairs, and don't go any higher than that. The rain is hitting everything else, so it looks kinda left out. Also, a little more "mist" around the raindrops hitting the ground would make them look a little less like geometry and more like water.

Lastly (yes I'm almost done), since all that metal and stone is supposed to be wet, that layer of wetness will make your whole scene one big reflective surface (especially on the metal). You should see reflections of the sky mostly and some of the surrounding elements in the scene (think of headlights against a wet road and the elongated reflection it makes of the light). Without this, it doesn't really look wet.

I hope this all helps better than just giving you all this :buttrock: :buttrock: :buttrock: . Again, great work so far and good luck to you. -- JM

another Blow for C4D in the battle for legitimacy. Man that is a good pic one thingI noticed is that if you look into the distance when you are outside there is a slight fade into blue caused by the air and the enviornmoent. maybe if you could figure out how to work this in.

anyway nice nice pic and i would not have brought up th last point if the pic were not so good that it needed a really really nitpicky point made about it.

woo hoo Nice work espicely cool that it was done with C4D.

I like it, really nice and dirty wet! To me, it has the appearance of an illustration rather than a photograph - thats what I really like about it. Because of that I think that depth of field would be a bad idea - it would give the image the appearance of trying to be something that it is not. Photorealsim is overrated! :xtreme:
My only problem about the scene is the lightning strike. It's just a little over the top for my liking, if you know what I mean. I think the scene is strong enough on its own without the lightning. Also, wouldn't the entire scene be filled with light from the lightning flash? Oh well its a piece of art for which there are no hard rules.

Keep it up!

first, thank you very much for these great comments. i try to answer the questions :)

What about the mountains, are they a photo also, or did you create them in c4d?
they are 3d (Fractal)

just one question is it just me or does that flag say "meow"?
well it says "ME03" like Martin Ernst 03 :)

The windmill in the background could use a little drop in contrast...
yes, in earlier versions it was better, i try.. :)

You sould experiment with the depth of field for the scene.
i have almost enough cash to buy the R8, so a good DOF is close ;)

Again, given the low, diffused light, the shadows in the scene look a little too dark and contrasty
yes you are right, i must say that i also like the diffuse earlier versions better. i try... :)

..part two....

The raindrop hits are a nice touch, but I noticed that they abruptly stop at the stairs, and don't go any higher than that.
i have placed drops everywere but cause of the perspective they are not visible or look ugly, I swear ;) :) i try... :)

...Without this, it doesn't really look wet.
what can i say? you are right :)

I think the scene is strong enough on its own without the lightning.
good idea, we will see :)

ok, i try to realize the suggestions

Sweet! There's a great looking contrast across the sky now. It really draws your eyes over the scene. Looks like it's going to rain cats AND dogs now! Or maybe the rain is leaving...makes you think about it.

Incredible! I dig the atmosphere of the image, I especially love the texturing. One thing I would change or rather modify is the flag, give it some more breeze to it, that's a major storm kicking there ;) other than that, the rain drops should be a bit smaller when it contacts the surface. All in all
