Hello all!
Does anyone have sugestions on making a decent rock? I was looking in this tutorial http://64.191.105.10/ArticleDetails.cfm?ArticleID=203 for lightwave, and the rocks look very good.
Any similar way in C4D to achieve this?

Rock or asteroid field ? Rock is easily done with SLA. Check / use these presets:

http://www.c4d-treff.de/ressourcen/sla_presets_stein.html

The asteroid field could be done with Pyrocluster.

The materials you sugested do look very goog, but i wasn´t refering to materials but to the actual form of the rock. Is there a way to, starting with a cube, give it a rocky look, and i mean not by "hand"?
As to the asteroid field i imagined it would be with pyrocluster. Anyone knows how to do this, or a tutorial?

thanks

SLA noise in the displacement channel.

thanks thirdEye, that did just fine!

you can also subdivide and then use crumple. that works too.

But it's a lot heavier ;)

do note what your seeing in that LW example is the use of voxels. To do the same thing in C4D you would have to use Pyrocluster, meaning really long rendertimes, and you wouldn't have nearly the control.

crumple is heavy but you can change settings on it....also fine tune with iron plugin...dunno just a thought...also a deform bulge...whatever play around. displacement channel is basically same as lightwave stuff you posted.

I say a low poly mesh, with crumple, inside a nurbs, with both a displacement channel and a bump channel for the finer things in life. Sometimes one thing isn't necissarily better than another, so use it all. :p

yeah, the crumple sugestion works a little more interesting than the displacement. Thanks all.
Anyone knows a good tutorial on pyrocluster? It would probably work better in doing a asteroid field, like the one in the LW example...

I have tried to make an astreoid felid with pyro and eventurally I justgave up I just couldnt get my little puffs to look rock like I must have played with umm for a damn week.

if you manage to get a realistic looking rock with pyro i would kill for the scene file.

good luck.
