View Full Version : Hologram Shader
goosh 04-09-2002, 08:21 AM Hi All
I was wondering if anybody has any ideas on a hologram kind of shader.
I have a model of a human character that I need to give it the "star wars hologram" kind of look. Though it should be a little bit more 3Dish.
Anyways.. just a hologram would do :)
I tried using the X-Ray shader and I do get kind of the feel I'm going for, but I want to add some 'scan lines' going up and down so it looks like the object is kind of projected in mid air.
Ideas? ideas?
Thanks
Goosh

You're best bet would be to apply those effects in post. Afterall that type of stuff is done with a compositing package in the starwars flicks
EDIT EDIT EDIT didn't read the part you said you used xray already...as Grooveholmes said you should better do that in comp since it would give you more control...there are actually some plugins for After Effects which do that kinda fx. But if you want to go deeper in maya's shading network you can actually adjust the settings and combine different shaders (procedural 3d textures) with this x-ray shader to achieve really cool eye candy effects.

yep....like what "Mind" said....you can combine another texture/material to get this effect....but now that you've asked the question...I think I can get the effect you're looking for right there in native maya.....I'll have to run a few tests..I've never had to do anything like this......but I'm sure I could get something for you......sounds fun....

Hi..i am not very sure that it will help but here it is..
Just in all your shaders of your model go to effects -- glow and check hide object, the put the slider to maximum default...1.
It might give u something u will like for HOLOGRAM look.
P.S : u have to play with the intensity of light and glow otherwise everything will be completely white
Cheers
