View Full Version : Anyone have instability with Rivatuner softmod 9700 > fireGL x1?
madmac3d 04-03-2003, 10:46 AM I have my radeon9700pro running on the FireGL X1 drivers softmodded with Rivatuner....
I am finding that 3dsMax5.1 is more unstable, and when max does crash, it causes the whole system to reboot, and it leaves the last autosave (and normal incremental save) corrupt.... :(
Has anyone else had this problem?

Post your specs and how you installed the scripts, you checked if they are installed properly and how you checked? (Try GLinfo for example) Windows file protection on XP can cause you troubles when trying to patch system files especially the target file for the SoftFireGL Script when targeting the file thatīs in use for the driver.
Driver version? Catalyst or FireGL drivers?

yea shit... sorry for being vague! .... thanks for taking interest!
ok...
I uninstalled all my drivers (catalyst 3.2s I think, but they might have been the 3.3), uninstalled the control panel.
Downloaded the Dell 1024 FireGL X1 driver.
Run the Rivatuner 1024 patch on the dell drivers... no probs...
Went to device manager, and installed the drivers manually to both primary and secondary displays....
The driver detected 3dstudio, and installed the driver for it.
Reboot machine...
I then run 3dstudio max, and have had the problems described with the system crashing.... not alot, but enough to cause me to lose work... especially due to the fact that the last saved files seem to get corrupted as a result of the crash.
Strangely, the crashing is not limited to manipulating viewports and the like, it also seems to crash when I hit render, which should theoretically not have much to do with the gfx card.... but when I change back to the catalyst drivers, everything works fine, except for the facts it is slow as hell...

Yeah sure he is a help 8 ), but itīs Guruīs of 3D where you can find me as well. There where some issues with 1024 drivers in all 3D applications I can remember, LW was mentionded too.
Your problems are gone with 1028 or 1030?

I've got around 25 users on various forums who scrapped the idea after a week or so of trying to use it.
I guess it depends on what program, and what your actually doing with the cards. (Some people never encounter any issues, but then, alot of those people aren't doing complex IK setups).

Yes, I have to agree Greg. Since the FireGL 8800 disaster I had 1 year ago I tend to dislike ATI solutions in any way. Err, if the original one is not working like it should what could you expect from a SoftFireGL card :annoyed:
Naah, they should give us a couple of good products in a row and I maybe tempted to try some ATI again, if they figure that driver thing out.

Interesting replies..
you guys paint a pretty grim picture.... bear in mind that I am quite happy to get workstation performance out of a cheaper card... if it weren't for the poor stability so far, the performance is fantastic in my opinion. There seems to be no comparison between the standard catalyst drivers and the fire gl ones. (I am woking primarily in 3d studio max). Things seem to crawl at times with the catalyst drivers.
I have upgraded to the 1032 driver , and on initial tests, the problem that I had has been solved :bounce:
What kind of problems do you predict I may have as soon as I get down to some heavy character animating?
Thanks again for you help! :buttrock:
