View Full Version : Rigid Body doesn't "fall"

I have created a simple scene where a simple polygonal mesh falls onto a poly plane.
The poly plane is a passive rigid body and the other object an active one.
The active body is connected to a gravity field.

When I play back the scene first, everthing works fine. The object is falling down onto the plane. But as soon as I rewind and want to play it again, nothing happens. My object doesn't move a pixel. I changed nothing.
The only way to get it working again is to reload the scene.

Any ideas?

are you using the "go back to start of playback range" button to rewind or are you manually dragging backward in the timeline?

also, is your timeslider set to view the entire length of the animation or just a small clip?

Double check where are you rewinding from, Once you navigate to a range less than or equal the "Start Time" in the "rigidSolver" node created, the simulation should rewind. I had some experiences where the rigid solver didn't initialize, or stops working suddenly (on Maya 7.0.1), didn't know an exact reason though.

Heya,

for the questions: it didn't matter wether I use the go back to start of playback button or the time slider.
My Start Time for the solver was "1" and that also was my rewind position.
However, it seems that I have solved the problem anyways.
I looked into the settings in Preferences -> Dynamics.
I checked "Run up to current time" box, marked "Run up from: Start Time" and unchecked "Save startup cache for particles".
Now everything seems to work fine.

Thanx for your help.
