View Full Version : C4D Dynamics: Soft body drape over Rigid Body
Cris-Palomino 04-03-2003, 08:23 AM Does anyone have a successful scene with a cloth draping over a cube (table or anything else)?
I am having a damnable time making out what to do to achieve this. Reynder sent me his file, but it is not successfully draping.
Maxon Tech sent me a simple file, but it doesn't work either (which I'm going to try to contact them about).
With all the tutorials available, there is not one I have been able to find that addresses this.
I need to drape a cloth runner over a temple altar, but I ultimately want to be able to drape clothing on a figure as well. Is there anything out there?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Cris

one guy tried this in an earlier thread but it didnt really work eventually he had to use a proxy object. which really will not work in your case because you want to use a figure not just a cube.

Cloth on a character??
for that use my seat of Lightwave7.5's
built in Motion designer function

C4D's $500 dynamics module will NOT do cloth on a character
anyone who tells it can, is either misinformed or just plain lying to you
sorry:D

That's great. I spoke with Tech and they told me it is not meant to work with cloth...it's for soft/rigid bodies....which is different.
May I see your file? I'd appreciate seeing how you did that.

anobrin: not knowing a great deal about dynamics module...i always presumed it could be used for cloth stuff....if thats not the case what does it do? also i understand its hard to do anyway, but are there any plugins in cinema to do this kinda work...is the alternative really just use another app...cos that would be really lame!:wip:
(oooh by the way long time no see)
cheers:thumbsup:

Sorry to speak for anobrin, but anyway, dynamics can do some nice "basic" cloth effects (like the cloth dropping on an object as mentioned) but if you want to clothe a character and have the cloth interact with it....well, I havent seen that done yet with Dynamics. Its not really geared for that.
Its really good with hard body collision IMO, though it takes some tweaking.
Perhaps Dynamics 2.0 is in the works now that Mocca makes character animation easier? :)

to Cris:
here is the cloth drop file CD4XL7.3.3
http://66.70.166.29/promo/ClothonCube.zip
the solver has been turned off andthe keyframes of the
animation have been baked to the timeline.
but you are welcome to "reinitialize" the solver to reverse engineer
its settings.
however any recalculation of the simulation will take some time:thumbsdow
depending on you CPU power etc.
Good Luck bro:beer:

Thank you (and btw, it's 'sis' not 'bro'...heh...common assumption).
