hey,
sorry about a really newbie question, but i was just wondering how dual monitors work with something like maya?
can you view different viewports on different monitors? and where does the interface elements sit?

also, do you need extra software to work with 2 monitors?

thanks!

first off, i still owe you those specs on the upgrades i suggested. work's been murder these last few days, so i apologise for that. :)

to answer your question: there's pretty much two ways to control dual monitor settings. windows XP in particular has some great dual-monitor support, but often if a video card will enable you to have dual monitor out the manufacturer will supply software to control it with your video drivers.

in particular i'm quite fond of nvidia and ati's current offerings in dual-monitor support. they're quite intuitive and user friendly.

as for your software, basically it will treat your two monitors as one big desktop. simply click and drag a window to the second monitor, and it will live there. i typically see a lot of 2d artists use this setup, as they'll have all of their pallets and tools in one monitor, and the actual image they are working on in the other. the same can be done with 3d tools obviously.
