View Full Version : window layout switching?

So I set up a scene, and did a render. The whole layout goes to one window, the uv/image editor. How do I get Blender to go back to the original window layout? Or do I have to re-split all the windows? I'm on OS X, if that matters.

I'm a Blender noob, switching over from Maya.

You can set up where render output appears at Buttons Window -> Scene context -> Render buttons subcontext -> Output panel. The control can be found at the bottom of it just below "Save Buffers" button. It seems you have set the value to "Full Screen". This options will render the output to maximized UV/Image Editor. You can exit it by hitting ESC key while hovering mouse on it. Or you can minimize it by using ctrl-downArrow or shift-space shortcut.

If you set the option to "Image Editor", you will get the minimized result automatically. (It picks the biggest screen available and renders to it. In current SVN it tries to avoid rendering to the Buttons Window as it is seldom preferred because it contains mostly user interface controls.)

Third option, Render Window, will open a separate window in which it will render. You can close it after render and make it visible again by hitting F11 key. F11 works with other options too. Note that you can use j key to swap the render buffer (this can be useful for quick test renders). Better yet you can use shift-p in 3D viewport to get fast preview renders.

Hopefully this answers your question. :)
