View Full Version : all black on make preview
i have some disable lights in my scene and with the defualt lights i get pitch dark MakePreview.
does that mean i have to switch all my rendering lights for a damn preview?
note. i imported the default lights into the scene and still no show.

im taking it that when you say lights that are disabled youve turned them off....i think max wont read the default lights if you got lights that you created in your scene......you maybe able to change this in the configuration settings(i cant remember).....or just create a light for previewing and then delete it..........i dont see why you dont just turn all your lights on.... i dont think its gonna make much difference to rendering time of a preview if any........or just turn on a couple of your final light setup if it does

As soon as you create a light in MAX it disables all default lighting. Besides, why would you want to override that? It could confuse MAX with trying to properly light a scene.

I often use Brazil far more than the default renderer in Max and consequently the light settings are much lower than are useful for using the scanline, but after modelling changes I often want to create a quick preview to check things. My way round this was to export the lights to a new scene (i.e Lighting rig).If I want to use the default lights/ scanline combo I just delete the lighting set up, and when I'm finished .. just merge the lighting rig back in from the new scene. Not ideal but it kinda works. :)

Just press CTRL-L (default lights toggle) before you make your preview.

MNNN Default light toggle only appears to affect my viewport and not renderings....Is there something Ive missed in options to affect this????
