I've been put on assignment to find out how much customization I can do with Maya on Windows and OS X in Maya 8.5.

First a question:
now that the webBrowser command is obsolete, how do I call a webpage in MEL ? eg: I have a page at \\server\webfolder\index.html how do I call that in MEL these days ?

and now to my discovery I found that Autodesk have added widgets for Maya in the dev kit :) one is the tool bar one is the channel box and one is the commandline.
really great for cstomization purposes.
you find them at:
Applications/Autodesk/maya8.5/ExternalWebBrowser/Examples/TigerDashboard

you might have to turn on the plugin by going to Help/External Webbrowser plugin wizard inside Maya first.

It's really become a really really strong tool..imagination running wild :)
