Hey,

Here is a pic of my latest character. This is as far as I've gotten with the modelling, not complete yet. All comments are welcome!!

Sorry about the small pics, I just dont have web space, so I have to make them under 20k

If anybody wants to host them for me, let me know and I'll send bigger pics.

Enjoy!!

nice job on the eyes.... although the bottom eyelid is a bit of a "v" shape... you could smooth that out a little.

also i suggest making the saggy bits of skin hold more volume, i guess that depends on how old you want him to look.

Hey Krugar,

Thanks for the crit! Im not really trying to make him that old, but I'll see how things go.I'll post an update a bit later.

I don't know why no one has replied more to this. This is a really great style you got going here. I saw this over at cgchannel and loved it there. Anyway great job. Does it have a spec map? If it does you gotta crank it up a bit

loked
04-08-2003, 01:10 AM
Hey Adam,

Thanks for the reply. I agree about the spec. It does have a spec map and I actually had it cranked up, but it made it look a bit plastic. I will play with it again and see what I can come up with. Thanks again!!

Hey~! Lookin great! I like the exaggerated style to this. :)

In my humble opinion (and maybe it's just me) but I think he'd look better with less furry eyebrows and shorter eyelashes.

Overall I like the modeling and texturing. Can't wait to see this finished.

I do plan on animating him, its actually a short project Im working on, but its going to take quite a while.

What exactly do you mean when you say too many details & how does it not look good?? Be more specific please.

Looks good, nice design. I think the eye lashes are a bit over done. And some how the mouth feels a bit low. Nice work tho.

04-08-2003, 09:41 PM
Hey Pen,

Quite a few people have mentioned the eyelashes thing. The mouth being low is part of the cartoony look. Im not really going for an anatomically correct real look. I want a cartoony real look.

Later!! :bounce:

Ive also just attaced a pic for fun, the only real update is that there is more specularity & a funky facial expression. I havnt gotten around to adjusting the eyelashes, so they still kinda big.
Enjoy!!

Hey everybody!

I decided to go for the shaven hair. It gives him a meaner look.

I've attached a pic of his face pretty much complete, except for a few minor adjustments. Im busy workin on the body now and will get that up when I get a chance.

what 3D software do you use?
That info should be manditory, it really gets on my nerves when people post stuff (specially stuff that is good) and dont tell you what they used :argh:

however, your model looks great... awesome modeling, and super awesome style! keep it up!

Hey,

Syrogen: He's gonna be in a fight scene, so I had to make him a hard looking priest!:)

Gremlin: I originally just put a link to my website where it say's what software I used. I actually forgot to say it here too. My bad!!
Dont get so stressed about it, just ask and I'll tell you:)

Teckniel: Dont know how many poly's right now, Im running kinda late, so I'll check later and let you know.

Okay, I am using Maya 4.5 and rendering with Mental Ray 1.5.

Good job all round, I even like the bullet head aspect. One crit, check the corners of the mouth, they need... hm, I'm not sure how to explain, they need to not protrude so much off the surfacem can you pull them back and tuck them in? Gnarly Cranium may be able to describe the solution better.

Hey Wetterschneider,

Thanks for the crit, I've been having quite a lot of trouble with the mouth thing already. Its was a lot worse, but I've managed to fix it to a degree. Im still gonna try and make it better. Thanks!!

Hey,

Here is an update of the body. I'm not entirely happy with it, so any comments or suggestions are more than welcome!!

Oh yeah and one other thing. The storyboard for this character has really got crazy, so he is no longer a priest. Enjoy!!!

I'd give him a bit more torso.
The way he looks now is kind of straight all around.
Also, I think the body is a bit to small for the head. Perhaps sizing it u a little would look more natural.

loked
04-21-2003, 11:07 PM
Hey BladeFX,

When you say more torso, do you mean make his chest and shoulders a bit wider?

I dont know if it works, but I made his head bigger to give a cartoony effect. I went for more of a stylised realism than a competely anatomically correct realism. Based on that, do you reckon I should still make the head smaller? Im really still not 100% sure what works, so please any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks for the reply!!

Hey Leigh,

Good to hear from you! :bounce:

Im glad you like the proportions, I was'nt really too sure about that aspect of the character, but I figured it suited it better.

I'll try and get some close ups tommorow and I'll post them for you. There's nothing really all that cool to see except the face. The body is pretty ordinary.

Take it easy!! :)

Very cool character, especially the face. And with the suit he could qualify as the oldest Man In Black :D

If you want some ideas on an alternative outfit for him, perhaps it would be suitable to give him a hippie look, with the bell bottoms and tie-dyed shirts from that era.

keep it coming

Hey Temporal,

Thanks for the Hippie idea:thumbsup: He's probably gonna end up being an assasin of some sort, so I dont think it would suit him:) Maybe for another animation!

I like the new pics.
One thing: if he's meant to be in a close-up like pic 1, i think it's best you model his eyebrows.

If he's going to be an assasin, perhaps a long leather coat would do well?

I do think that you need to enhance the bump maps a little though - they should give the hair and stubble some more definition :)
Also maybe give his skin a bit more of a grain to them :)

Hey,

I've been quiet for a while., but now Im back. I've decided that I dont really like his clothes and it doesnt suit the short we're doing anyway, so I'm modelling the body and then I'm gonna use a cloth simulator for different clothes. I haven't gotten to the legs, but I've pretty much completed the upper body. Obviously no textures have been applied to the body, so dont crit on that :D
