View Full Version : Chrome/caustics mental ray

I'm tryng to get some caustics on a chrome material, with arch and desing shaders....but looks ugly....
anyone can givme some advices or tell me how to get fince caustics on a chrome material?...i want something like this link below but with a can:twisted:

What was your result/settings? Did you use the dielectric photonic node?

For more detailed caustic patterns you can use a higher number of photons, lower number of caustic photon samples, and finally use the "cone" filter type for sharper caustics. If you need a reference, I have a Max9 A&D caustic test scene available on my blog here (August 20th entry):

Also, here's an example where I used a fairly high number of caustic photons, low number of samples (50), and the cone filter type:

(I've assumed that you've used 3dsmax. If not, then I'm not sure what the same settings are called in other packages)
