Dude, post in the Softimage forum! You'll get better responses this way.

What I like to see from a "newb" is keeping the fridge stocked with beer.

To create something, use your imagination. The possibilities are endless.

Hmmm...all that money spent on a nice app like XSI and you don't know what to do with it. I feel your pain.

:hmm:

For inspiration why not check out the Works in Progress and Gallery/Finished Works forums?

Look up tutorials, Highend3d (www.highend3d.com) is a good place to start. There should be numerous links also in the Softimage forum here.
Start very basic even if this means you have to animate a simple ball bouncing. You want to learn the basics of CG and not be overwhelmed by the software at the same time. I would suggest actually starting on something easier, and im willing to guess you wont have that much trouble switching so try a simpler package, learn the basics then learn a highend 3d package.
Dont worry about the app. You can create crap in any program and great works of art even with poser. Though that might be stretching it. Having 10000 powerful tools at your disposal isnt worth jack if you cant animate well.

OBTW, if you do have a valid copy of XSI and find it frustrating i'll be happy to trade it for my copy of Animation Master.

How old are you?

Methinks the last thing I want to do is try to impress the likes of you.

Some how I don't find this hard to believe. Dude, use your own imagination.

... well thanks for your replies. XSI is a great app but i think id go with maya.

Sounds to me like your just looking for flame bait. Besides, I have a feeling you'll suck at any app you try. Good riddance.

K. youve done all the tuts? Create a small, simple short animation, or join the collaborative team projects forum. There are a lot of projects in need of help down there and many are n00bs.
As for ideas, im gonna leave that up to you. But you can check conceptart.org (www.conceptart.org) for inspiration/fan art concepts if you are into modelling.

There seem to be a lot of these conflagatory characters lately. Is there some jackass thats spamming the boards or are the just a bunch of little kids more used to flame forums?

"Sounds to me like your just looking for flame bait." <----- This shows a realization that this person, Signal to Noise, understands that the thread starter, Attilathehun, is baiting people with derogatory sentiments in the hopes of getting others to insult him.

"Besides, I have a feeling you'll suck at any app you try." <----- Even though Signal to Noise showed that he was aware of Attilathehun's attempts to create insults, he decides to go ahead and inflict the very first insults in this thread.

Hmm, you're right Takkun! It does seem ironic.

Sometime's I can't seem to control myself.

Something you're familiar with (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=53508) too, eh?;)

I guess I'm a poor example of sophistication and maturity.

Ah, well. 'Twas fun anyways. Worth every keystroke.

Every statement you make is true but you need to limit your speech so you can encourage instead of talkin shit. so i recomend that you give me ideas to get better then just say how much i suck. and if you think other wise then your not doin what CG is sopposed to be.:annoyed:

Attilathehun, please have a look at this FAQ (http://catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html).
It only takes about 20 min to read and will enhance your experience in this forum greatly. After you have read it, feel free to come back and ask some more questions. But until then, I think you should hold off for a bit.

Thanks.
