I am about to replace my dying CRTs and have little experience with LCD monitors.

I am thinking of buying the Dell Ultrasharp 2007wfp monitor for my workstation, but am concerned about the 16ms response time (it's 16ms btb and 8ms gtg). I want good color, for digital painting and rendering, but I am a professional 3D character animator and therefore clear movement is absolutely essential. The monitor uses an S-IPS panel which sacrifices response time for much better color over the TN screens.

At what point response time wise, does an image begin to look choppy or experience ghosting when watching playblasts?

Should I outright disregard any monitor over a certain response rate threshold? Is there a better monitor for the equally affordable price of around $400 that I should be considering?

Thanks a ton!

Thanks guys, I'll check out these Samsungs. Anyone else have experience with these Samsungs, the Dell 2007wfp or any other monitors you love?

Well, I got a GEM 30ms LCD screen and it does not have any problems at all. Besides, it has a much better color display. I don't think response time is an issue any more, with my 30ms, I have no problem playing Need For Speed Carbon.

really? maybe that because the car is fast and the scenery is blurry
on 16ms i could even watch a dvd with it annoying the hell out of me

nowdays you should be able to pick up an under 12ms fairly reasonably priced
