View Full Version : Wireless access point help.
Yourworstnightmare 09-01-2007, 06:15 PM I have, before used my workstation to set up a wireless access point in my house for my Wii and DS and PSP and laptop, after I move in 2 weeks, I will no longer have my workstation, how would I go about working Wi-Fi without a computer to run the network, do I just connect the modem to the router and have my computer find the signal? And how would I go about making the data on my external drive available through Wi-Fi?

can you describe your problem again, i'm a little confused. you can access router through any device that has a web browser. it is not restricted to just a single machine.
Is your wireless access point a router? if so, you shouldn't have any issues once you remove the desktop. If its just an access point, however, you will need something to route your internet traffic.
Most routers can be had in the $50 range.
If you used your desktop to configure the router before, thats fine. If you will need to configure it again you can still use any computer. It shouldn't matter too much. Though, usually you will need to connect to the router directly through a cable rather than wireless. Though, once set up, you should be able to use the wireless without need of anyhting hooked up through the cable.
