i like these characters and the setting is really fun. the primary mood is working nicely too. great job! one comment may be everything is a little too centralized/symmetrical, i know the composition is in that nature, but maybe a secondary focal point, or bending the vertical line of composition slightly, or moving some creatures around slightly, could create a little more dynamic composition. but that's being picky. good luck!

Jeffparadox: Thank you! I know what you mean about the symmetry and I agree its worth pushing further. thanks for the comments and advice!
Am7: Hello Atle! Thanks for the comments mate, I agree with your advice! haha yeh get sketching im looking forward to following your work!
Well I started doing some thumbnails, and I kinda stumbled upon another idea, similar but a different painting! Ive posted it here. Like a roller coaster with a nasty surprise at the end. Not sure if its strange behaviour....I may go with this one, not sure, will see how it goes! Also posted some animal sketches, just playing with the designs of the little guys

Hola kenneth! Welcome to your first challenge. :) Your concept is looking good, but I agree that I think you can push the composition further, do some thumbnails you know. Other than that, its a good start - you'r a fast sketcher! I guess I better get started myself soon!

Had a lot of free time today so I managed to whip up another concept from my thumbs - its a similar idea but with a different twist. Not sure if its the direction I want to take ultimately only time will tell! any crits?
i really like the style, i think it can be more destructurated, the characters could be more insane (especially the monster... i liked the crown too, it makes it more understandable)
the colors are really good, even if I think there could be more contrast (between the monsters and pillars, for example)
this is one of my favorite pictures ;)

Added some more to the original concept... I think this is stronger than concept 1, but Im still not 100% happy...

I gotta say mate. Your idea kicks ass :D
as a matter of fact, I think it might have a to big influence on my own consepts D:
taste
09-03-2007, 08:53 PM
it took me a while to get the idea, but i guess you're trying to make it seem like the purple monster cleverly set up the fun ride to trick the furry creatures for lunch? or is he attacking the ride?
if it's the first one, here's some suggestion: try lowering the end of the track so it aims directly at the creature's mouth and i don't think the creature should look like it's tearing the support pillar apart. i might also want to put a bit of a smile on the purple monster so he looks like he's rather enjoying this but that's just my personal opinion:)
Noisetank
09-03-2007, 09:33 PM
I agree with taste you should either lower the track or atleast have one rabbit being chewed up in his lower left jaw. It really looks great just try to figure out some smaller elements to set it off...like sparks on the rails to enhance the rabbits momentum stuff like that.
Jeffparadox
09-03-2007, 11:25 PM
Hey buddy love your sketches hehehehe! This is a more dynamic composition for sure, I'd say it's 90% solid. Here is an idea:
Place such a thing into the composition that the bunny creature in the foreground is actually scared of that less prominent thing than he is of the bunny eating monster, while the tracks are leading to his mouth like taste suggested.. If that thing looks so absurdly unexpected, and even out of place in that universe, it could increase the humor and the strangeness in the image. You could place it somewhere in lower right corner, and point bunny's pupils there for ex. Anywayss, keep it up buddy. Liking your episodes :berr:

Shikaru: Thanks mate! Appreciate it. haha, im looking forward to seeing where u go with your ideas!
Taste: Yes you are right with number one. The general idea was the monster is tricking the creatures, he isnt invading. Thanks for your advice man, I agree with all of it. I need to avoid that confusion of whether their fate was set up or accidental!
Noisetank: Thanks for the comments, I agree I need some small details to enhance the image and help to define the story :D
Jeff: Thanks! Appreciate it :D haha I like your idea, I will maybe try it out and see if it works :D Thanks for the advice
the monsters are really cool! maybe more atypic than the first one, but I think you should keep its specific big mouth.
The colors of the environnement, according to me, is very appropriated. There are some colors in your monsters that could be more interesting to avoid "purple on purple".
Hey Kenneth, great sketches!!! and awesome monsters designs:thumbsup: , nice!! I liked your last concept, very funny , great!! Perhaps the rollercoster more inclined from the squirrel to the monster in perspective, only a comment :) Again great work man!!

Hello! Ive been taking everyones advice in hand (some of it I have just read and I am gonna impliment next update) I hope this image is improving? My main concern is that the idea is being communicated...
Thanks for all the comments so far, its very encouraging, and its helping me so much!
jayf: Thanks for the comments and advice! Its much appreciated! Yes I think my monster needs some work, I have a few ideas I am going to try on him! As for colour, I agree totally, I intend to create some strong lighting there and the purple on purple thing is something I didnt think about - thanks for pointing that out!
Ferx: Thank you! I appreciate your comments very much :D. And thanks for your comment - I am not 100% sure what you mean? Do you mean tilt the rollercoaster more towards the monster? Thanks dude!

Really draws you in...fantastic job. I love the composition. This really answers the brief.........what could be more strange than these cute little critters willingly and casually strolling down towards this monster like they don't have a care in the world........well done.

Thank you sir! Your words are very encouraging. I am wondering if I should portray these little guys more relaxed. Originally the big creature eating monster was a surprise ending for the little guys, but I like how you describe it. They SHOULD be willing and casual! Thanks for your comments! :D
Hey ken! Looking sweet man, I agree with the comment about making the critters seem like they don't have a care in the world riding that ride. Even if there's a huge monster at the end. :)
Keep going! I'll check back for updates regulary!

Love the character designs - sort of cute and scary at the same time...
No real crits at the moment. You could increase the colours on the nearest part of the rollercoaster to increase the depth a little, but it really works well as it is.

This is brilliant!! Great characters and so, so funny... as a minor crit, if I may,I kind of prefer the sketch with the walkway-trail-ledge coming all the way straight down to the monster's mouth, the rails as they are confuse me a bit. Anyhow, great piece!!

i think this is my favourite entry in the whole competition :D i think i critted one of your works before, on your site the picture of the girl and the bear. you've improved very very fast!
as for this picture, i think that there should be a bunny just about to fall in the monster's mouth, so just like mid-flight into the opening. another thing which is bothering me is the space between the foreground bunny, and then in comparison the spaces between the bunnies in the distance, maybe you could bring the bunny in the foreground a little more to the right. or maybe it's only me who gets annoyed by spacing and patterns like that ;P
on second thoughts, just move the bunny in front of the foreground bunny to the left. this will solve the problem with the gap.
good luck :D
hu hu hu hu hu hu he he hehehe! I LOVE IT ALL! BRAVoO'!
we want more rabbits !!! (just a point of view)
excellent job

I agree with your crits, I am going to work on the placement of those critters somewhat. And I like your idea. And I agree about the spacing of the bunnies! It has been annoying me too, but i was worried about crowding the scene. However, I think I will move that second one left a bit!
thanks for the advice, a great help!!

Roll up roll up!
For the thrill of your life
Forget your worries
Forget your strife!
Fun fun fun is what youll find here,
But the price is quite steep, yes very dear!
Step in the cart now,
No need to worry,
Shaped like a coffin
An omen? Dont scurry!
Soon youll be racing so very fast
You and your friends, no-one wants to go last!
The critters agree,
Its worth it they say
Mr Octopi's funride
You must try it one day!
But only once mind, you cannot go twice,
For the price you pay, is not very nice!

HAHA! this is just lovely, there's nothing I dig more than dark humor poetry!!
But the reason I post now (and in the meantime apologize for not doing so before) is this amazing picture you made! I love the dynamic of the game and how you take the ride while you discover the details and finaly the end of the trip! Damn, it could make a great animated screen saver... I could stare at it for days!:D
Besides that I loved the color scheme and how it works for the action, and the red hot wheels are a great and clever detail....
