Mel Set Value Tool v. 1.0 (http://www.omita.com/Forums/Boards/setValue.zip)

Well... I'm happy to say that I understand Mel a bit more. Here is my Maya version of a LW Set Value Tool. This simple tool works just like the Lightwave tool. One additional feature I added is the tool remembers what Axis you’re using. In literally 2 clicks you have everything you need centered and ready to go.

For people not familiar with the tool, this tool quickly aligns selected edges or vertices on a given World coordinate system. I hotkey this tool to "CTRL v". This tool is very useful right before you mirror your geometry.

Hope you like it. I created a little Icon for the Shelf too.

Everything needed is included in the linked Zip file.

Heh. Can't you pick the vertices and set their X, Y, or Z values in the component editor?

You can get the same result if you use the component editor. For me this tool is faster and Simpler then using the Component Editor and even faster then snapping... and its something I liked in Lightwave. It's not a better way... I personally work faster when I use simpler tools that require less thinking, that way I stay in my creative productivity zone.

Any time I have to stop and think like when confronted by a cluttered UI like the Component Editor I lose time.

I also made the tool to learn some more Mel UI stuff. So... it's the result of semi productive tinkering. :)

In Maya there always seems to be 7 ways to do any one task. This is just another way to get from point A to point B.
