Youcan't replace the sound card internally on a laptop. It's a chip on the motherboard. You can disable it in the bios and use an external soundblaster Audigy. Ebay is loaded with them.

Ohh i see. Thank you so much for your answer. If its possible id like to know a few things about these external cards. Are these, or are there any, that would be decent for simple audio work with adobe audition? It's nothing proffesional, mainly to just experiment with music and recording, but i would like to get the best quality i can for what ive got. id mainly be using audition, reason, and just some simple things with a mic to make some things to go along with some animations. Thank you for all your help :)

Is there something wrong with the internal sound card / chip, I have a m90 and it seems adequet for me, hell I got a new PC with Vista and an Creative x-fi card and its crap, I much prefer my m90 for any sound work.

The sound quality on the external card would be as good but the drawback may be that even USB 2 is not very fast for moving large amounts of data. Midi files, which are small, would be fine but I'm not sure about large wav files being sent out through the USB port. MP3 files should be OK. Maybe someone else on this forum has more experience with the data rates of any external sound card can pitch in with some good info. I wouldn't want to give advice on something I haven't personally tried. Good luck.

Nothing is wrong with my current internal one for music and other things, but when it comes to recording and such i have a few problems. Thank you guys for all your help. If anyone else has anything to chip in i would be happy for anything else i can know.
