I dont know if its just that I havn't noticed before but my ram use never falls below 35% even when I'm doing absolutely nothing after a cold boot other than running the opperating system. Is this normal or should I be concerned (virus/spyware/something broke!! etc)?

I'm running:
Vists 64bit Ultimate
E6600
2 gig RAM

Thanks
cyphyr

Vista utilises RAM in a different way to XP (and other earlier versions of Windows).

Prior to Vista Windows would usually try to keep as much RAM free as possible, only loading programs etc. as you used them.
Vista tries to predict what you are going to do based on past usage and pre-loads applications into RAM on start up.

Microsoft calls this feature SuperFetch. There is a more complete explaination here (http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=2917&p=4) of how it works.
