Yup, that's what it is, a hobby... and one which I am having a blast learning...

I was commenting over in the C4D forum about how C4D wasn't doing so well with my wee celeron, then I got some free parts from garbage days in our neighborhood and built myself a celeron 400... yea yea, I know it isn't exactly what you would call a speed demon, but hey... I am now able to work with C4D v 8.1 without things hanging up....

to which somebody started in with how it takes a 3ghz monster machine in order to model... and that it modeling with a PII should not even be considered...

and while I understand that power is cool, I also understand that my cieling just went up from working with a 1500 poly before things slowed down, to now being able to work with a 5000 + poly model.... with no slow downs...hey, good enough for me... what fun it is to whittle away at some low poly model... here's one I started tonight... inspired by the car done by JP Gargoyle, and though it is not near as loy poly as his, it is with hopes that I will use shaders rather than mapping to make this little beastie look good... I dunno, we will have to see... and yea, it has a lot of work to go, but hey... just whittling away with Wings3D and my new and much more powerful C400... heehee ;) ;) :D

This is 1613 polys, damn I have an extra somewhere... ugggggg... haha, oh well... :D

Still lot's to do.. :D

Happy creat'n all :bounce:

Hey S3D, you've got a good looking car there!

I still have to work a little on mine to get this kind of detail.
And I intent to do that :)

I also am not going to UV-Map the high-poly version (I think), I am planning on exporting it to be rendered in PovRay.

Good work.

Best regards.

Hey thanx JPG... you really inspired me with your tutorial like UV info thread... I was/am blown away by how you were able to keep things so small and yet make it work through texturing... very way cool...

there are a few really great threads here at CGT showing some really fine examples of low poly modeling... There was a cool example I believe over at the Wings3D community which was a model of this cool looking dude with leather jacket and all yet very low poly's... it was one fine looking game char... for sure...

and I can't remember who it was, but I was just viewing a thread here at CGT where this guy had created this cool looking nerd... it was great stuff... think it was in a challenge or something, I remember clicking through from his signature area... there's tons if you dig around...yet.... I really like the low poly stuff you are doing as well... and that Wings enables this process so easlily... I think once I have finished this larger boxed model here, I will take even a closer look into doing some really good but low poly modeling... it is a passion... now then, onto making some more cuts and moves... gotta make mirrors, and windshied wipers etc... as well as cutting up and moulding the body a way more...

My biggest problem is putting too much detail and/or poly's anyway, too soon like... Like I wanna start some mirrors ot tail lights when I know I should be cutting and sculpting the body much more... haha, decisions decisions...

hey thanx again... it is good to be sharing some modeling approaches, I am learning more and more everyday thanks to many who have done such neat modeling that one goes back and studies things some more...

haha, I just checked out "fatty" being done by someone here at CGT... here is the thread... enjoy eh... http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38445
