View Full Version : Video Card Comparisons
heffermoose 08-31-2007, 04:56 AM Rencently i've spotted an Nvidia Quadro FX 3400 256MB video card on ebay for $300. I currently have an ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB card. I know that Quadro FX cards work better when working inside Maya 8.5 and rendering using mental ray but I'm not sure how much the different is.
Does anyone know of any benchmarks that compare quadro cards with Geforce or Radeon cards in terms of workstation usage like maya, max, rendering, etc. I paid $200 for my current card, if i'm not going to see much improvement with the FX3400 then i'll save my money. Otherwise, I would like to upgrade.
Thanks

Actually, I've read that ATI cards are extremely Maya friendly; but I have no personal experience with either. I can tell you that I have a QuadroFX 3500, and I am pretty underwhelmed by it's performance in Max. But there is lot's of info out there; the two links below might be helpful.

A note about the GeForce cards.
Both NVIDIA and AUTODESK do not recommend using Maya with the GeForce cards; they have problems. See "Nvidia GeForce GPUs" at this link: http://www.alias.com/eng/support/maya/qualified_hardware/QUAL/maya_85_win.html#compilerRequirements
Just thought you ought to know this.

Hi
The quadra card your mentioning i think it is an AGP not PCI Express
make sure about this ... if you require a pci express if you get an AGP card it wont fix them in your system
Cheers
