Thanks goes to all who watch the animation and critique. I'm in college now working on getting into the animation field. An instructor saw the original and suggested I use the idea for my reel.
It's about a head doing a lip sync of one of Invader Zim's infamous speeches.
Enjoy.

If you don't have DivX, this is where you can get it. http://www.divx.com/divx/

qlbanks: I think you've started off on the right foot. A couple areas could use some more polish. First, the eyes. They are all over the place. They never really focus on anything, they just wander around. Since this is a diolague to someone, they his eyes should be looking at this person most of the time. You'll also note that eyes don't really smoothly wander, they usually dart. You could use a couple more shapes for your lips too. I don't think you're getting your "ooo's" down correctly. They need a little more pucker. Your eyebrows are also a little lifeless. I imagine them very furowed most of time, but they're not. The head is a little crazy also. Sometimes it seems like it's just moving around for the heck of it, not because he wants to emphisize something. Lastly, the teeth aren't moving correctly when he laughs. Hope this all makes sense, and I hope you don't take any of this personally. Just some suggestions to help ya get better.

Yeah. His eyes should focus on something. I was having him talking towards the camera, but as he was talking he was also thinking and imagination about what he was saying as he said it.
The head's not better crazy? Hm, I need more people to comment on this question. I've gotten positive and negative about how the head moves. Needless to say I'm confused.

that was hilariouse! I think the eye movement is fine...the eyes drift when he sounds like he is thinking and look back at the camera when he starts to enphasise his speach. The head movement seems ok to me, maby a little bit floaty but it IS a floating head, isn't it ;)
After watching it another couple of times it is true the eyes are not quite right. A wee bit too much drift in some places.
There is an issue with the teeth when laughing...they don't follow the jaw.
It's so funny. :applause:

The biggest thing I have to say is that you seem to have attempted to hit every single phoneme, which is a big mistake. When we talk we sort of mesh together our syllables and such and it is much more natural looking to try to hit plosives and important phonemes on the dot but not every single one in between. It is sort of an organic process that you just have to experiment with. Your blend shaping is also pretty mechanical at points, when the guy is laughing it is just like up, down, up, down, up, down... in a very mechanical fashion that doesn't look too natural.
All that negativity aside, it's a fairly long lip-sync and is pretty well done and could be perfect with just a little more work. Nice job overall.

The page cannot be found. It's a bad link at the moment. I wish I could check it out, as I'm a big Zim fan. It would be interseting to see how you put your own spin on it, but such is life:sad:
