I have finished the modeling and texturing of my character. It is a wood/dirt troll one might come across when wandering in some unknown forest.

Originally created for the Enchanted Forest Challenge back in May/June. I had some time to map and paint over the past three weeks, and this is what I came up with.

Enjoy. Comments are always welcome.

It is rigged, and there is a walking animation. I will remake the animation within the next month. Eventually there will be mosses, dead leaves and grasses as simulations on his skin.

Modeled and Animated in Lightwave
Painted in Aura
Poly Count 13,000 (non-subpatched)

i like this, though the textures really only come to when viewed closer to the image, further away things aren't so clear, when you're nearby though *wow*, great texturing. cool model.

Thanks mdme_sadie, banshee, schmu_20mol

I added two more images. A close-up of the torso/head to mimic my original drawing in charcoal.

Uhm, wait a minute: Poly-Count 13.000 ?!?
Looks more like 130.000 or 1.300.000

How did you realize this model with only 13K Polys?

Uh, right, sorry about that. It's 13,000 when not subpatched. It's about 234,000 for what you see in the render.

Just wondering if anybody else wanted to this before it gets lost in the trenches of CGTalks art.

Cool, model, although the first thing that came to mind was that the bump map wasent deep enough, especially on the back shoulder areas, where it might look kinda neat to have more of a variation in the texture/bump. Course, that would be personal preference i guess. Not that I have a bumpy back or anything... oh boy... quick! look over there!

That's cool DOOMNINJA, I agree. I'm trying to apply normal displacements to my model, but Layout slows waaay down when I try, and it can't figure it out. I'm still trying though.

something that struck me was that the textures look really great close up, but not so much so from a distance.

M_Orlich...
I see what you mean; they look really good close up, but from far away it looks so damn detailed. My solution: add a slight abit of depth of field, this way, when farther away it wont be so crisp (and confusing to the eye).

But it looks awesome, so close to the concept, its insane... superb modeling, great texturing, jesus... cant wait to see an animation!
Cheers,

Looking cool! Although I do feel that parts of it, especially the bump map, are a little too uniform throughout the model.
But great work otherwise
