OK, i'm just in the process of moving from max to maya and have some (hopefully) easy/obvious questions to ask:

1/ Is there any equivilant to Max's Named Selection Sets for subobjects in Maya? (I'm getting really sick of selecting the same faces over and over again!)

2/ What is the method for assigning different materials to different faces? (Like Max's Material ID and Multi/sub material). I have selected some faces and applied a new material to them, but how do I manage it, eg add faces to the set etc.

3/The UVW editor seems really clunky compared to the max 5 one, eg, I am having trouble moving UV verts when showing only some selected faces. Is it just a case of getting used to it or is there a better way?

4/Just say I create a particle system and and an emitter object, but then later I change my mind and want the particles to come from a different emitter, like an object, how can this be done?

If you have any tutorial sites on any of the above that would be most apreciated too!

create->sets->quickSelectionSet

you can assign a shader on a face by face bases or
max's Material ID and Multi/sub material is like a layerd texture in maya where one shader can have multi textures assinged to different UV sets (I do think max handles this a little better then Maya) check the docs for layered texture (not shader)

just get use to it pros and cons in both packages

one particle shape can be hook into many emiiters look under windows->relationship editors dynamic relationships (right side of window ...seletion modes ....emitters
