Hey welcome. I'm not a big fan of Laptops for 3d on account of mine just dying a horrible horrible premature death. But to narrow it down for you, I don't think XSI has ported over to a Mac.
Your best place to start would be on the qualified hardware list for XSI. This will link you to the mobile workstations (laptops) that xsi has certified.

Big jump indeed! from 2.5D to 3D!!!
If you finally buy a laptop I recommend you to grab a nice 20inch monitor not widescreen for ease your workflow... working on a laptop screen is really a pain! you dont notice it until you change!
for the laptop get the best deal for the bucks! I would recommend a pc for anything 3D but now you can run xp fine on a mac... then the choice is your!
I buyed a dell with e6600 and 2gb of ram and will never work on my laptop anymore! nothing compare with a good desktop and its way less expensive!
and forget the myth of working in a café with your nice laptop... its very hard to concentrate with all the girls around! I tried and fail lamely!
