View Full Version : Texturing question

This issue has been driving me crazy the last few days. I've looked in every tutorial I can find and all of the how-to books are of no help either.

I have a couple of videos (complete with a matching alpha transparency video) of people standing up and waving/cheering. I’d like to take these videos and put them over flat 2d polygon and make a quick and cheap fake audience. It’ll look cheesy and 2d, but that’ll be fine for the application.

The problem I’m running into is trying to align the texture to multiple polygons – although, they are all the same size/shape.

Here’s the basic polygon with texture:

If I take this single object and clone it in layout it’s fine, but then I have hundreds of objects cluttering up layout. I’d like to do all of this in modeler.

The problem is in modeler, as soon as I clone the object or try to introduce variation in the “crowd,” the texture gets completely misaligned.

Creating a UV map of the crowd seems impractical as it’s a video texture. The only other option I can think of is to make a separate surface for each polygon, but then I have 100s of surfaces which doesn’t seem like an improvement either.
I'm using Lightwave 8.0 if that makes a difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi

i think u can just make your first poly , create a very simple planar UV map, then clone your poly.

You will end up with all the polys you need for your crowd but you can use only one very simple UV map.

You can then actually make different surfaces on different polys so u can use different people
and still only need 1 uv map.

hope that helps

cheers

Oh my god... I can't believe it was that simple.

Thanks! That worked perfectly!! Yay, back to rendering!

Thanks again!!
