how do I get my damn phreaking Sony CDRW to work?!?!?!?! >.<

Okay, so when I try to burn using CloneCD, it says it is unable to gain exclusive access to the drive.

When I try to burn with Easy CD Creator, it says no compatible burner installed

When I use Nero, it just does a drive image.

I've had this working before and it seems to just not work now after a format. -.-"

Easy CD Creator has a variety of patches and updates to enable it to properly detect your drive. (Sometimes the default install has trouble with newer CDRW's).

Make sure DMA is enabled for the drive, that may be causing some problems.

As always, verify the drive is actually detected by reading a cdrom from it. Make sure all cables are tight, and its power connector is fully inserted, as well as proper master/slave relationships.

If your still having trouble, connect the drive to its own IDE port (Just the CDRW on the Secondary IDE port), and try again.

thanks for the nfo. I did all those already actually and even ran the Sony CDRW drive test utility which does a burn and it worked fine!!!

But all else has failed.... I ended up just using the burning software that came w/ my drive, the B's Recorder Gold.... I still prefer the Easy CD Creator interface... but it's nice to see that it actually lists 52x as a burn speed. =D

I think what happened last time was because I had a working Plexwriter installed, I had just swapped that out with the Sony CRX220A1 (i think that's the correct model #), so there were some drivers still left over from the plexwriter letting it work correctly.

Yeah, those patches for ECDC didn't work out all that well... -.-" But it's okay, at least B's Recorder Gold has everything integrated into one single UI which is kind of nice ... but I do miss that instantaneous burn speed meter and buffer meter of ECDC.

It's quite likely that you've installed directcd (i recon it's called "drag to disk" now) or some other crap (incd or whatever) that runs in the background. Uninstall shit you don't use and only use what you need.

Note that burning software bundled with CDRW drives is often drive-specific (Nero for instance) and can't be used with other drives without applying cracks (which would be extremely illegal I guess).

nopers, I made quite sure that the DirectCD junk never comes near my system.... i hate that junk.. and as for nero, I got a retail version... it should work on lots diff drives right? Anyhow, it seems that BHA's B's Recorder Gold works quite nicely so far... though I do miss the ECDC interface. ...
