Hello,
I'm trying to do a texture on a modeled head, i Assigned a New Material to it, Lambert and then I go into Color under the Common Material Attributes and I choose to upload a File, a checkerboard file, but then suddenly the texture comes out looking like this instead. This happened to me with a different model as well, and I stopped trying to texture that and moved to this model to see if the same thing would happen... and it did. I also tried both Maya 8.5 and Maya 7 and the same thing happened in each. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Can anyone help me??

Thank you in advance!

This usually happens when you load an image that has an alpha channel in it into the shader. It automatically assigns the image to the transparency channel in the shader, which is why it displays that way in the viewport.

Either remove the alpha channel from the image, or break the connection to the transparency channel.

That can also happen in Maya if your geometry has no UVs

Aah yes, I forgot about that - that's a very good point. Either way, this problem is as good as solved, methinks.
