Title: Vocalessence
Name: Chris Carter
Country: USA
Software: 3ds max, mental ray, Photoshop, ZBrush

This is my first post anywhere, and I hope you like it. I've been fascinated by so much of the work here and have been waiting to post until I could do something worthy of the CG Society. I hope I have.

I've always loved the sound and grace of the violin. It's said to be the instrument best able to imitate the human voice. As such, I enjoy the dichotomy of the so very inhuman character Sherlock Holmes and his own obsession with the violin. that's why I chose that particular book to rest it on.

Thanks to all of you for your brilliant inspiration!

Yes, it's much faster but this render is a poor example of that. The final gather pass alone took about 45min. per region and the 4096x1536 render had to be done in three regions. The GI and the actual rendering went pretty quickly, at about 10min per region. Mental Ray is easier to use (somewhat) then it used to be but it's still no speed-demon.

Nice work. I think it's definately more than "worthy" of CG Talk :)

It's good in the usual aspects, modelling, texturing etc...But it's also great as a composition, and the way that it's been thought about, it feels like emotions have gone in to the work and it has a bit of a back story to it.

Great piece. Hope to see more work from you soon. :)
