View Full Version : Does anyone know a good boolean...?
J.Clayton 04-01-2003, 03:56 PM Does anyone know of a good Maya boolean function (1st or 3rd party) that will successfully boolean 2 non-closed objects together?

I`m really new at maya and I don`t have a solution to your problem, but maybe you have a soulution to mine,
when I try and make a union between to polygon models, both models dissapear-
y?
In the reading it says this:
"Failed Boolean operations
Occasionally Boolean operations may fail for topological reasons.
If this happens, the objects that were selected before performing the (failed) operation become invisible. To return to the original state, undo the last Boolean operation."
-so this is all fine and good, but how to you fix topological errors?- i can`t even figure out what that is, but is sounds like to me from your post, the models have to be a complete closed surface, and mine has opens hole in it, but I`ve gotten things to boolean with it before- so I don`t think thats it,
Pleeease help!:D

I don't have much experience with booleans in Maya so I assumed that the reason I couldn't perform this operation was because both my objects were not "closed" geometry. It appears that you can indeed perform booleans on open geometry, so I guess I asked the wrong question. Perhaps Maya is very picky. The objects im trying to boolean have very contrasting poly count; one is very high res and the other has a significantly smaller poly count. I suppose this could cause a problem, but i really don't know. Sorry, im not much help either.
