The story of the anim yet is simple: the strange behavior of a little girl who becomes savage.
an employee is late, in her car, in a traffic jam: then she becomes totally crazy, she begins to move like a monkey. She runs and jumps to arrive to her office. But when she becomes like she was before, we see that the life in the office looks like a jungle too.

This is the story yet, but it can change. But I like the idea to animate a smart girl who moves like a monkey.
Here is a link where you can find the first version of the animatic:
animatic (http://jf.barthelemy.free.fr/strangebe/animatic001Med_Prog.mov)

there is a lot of thing to change, but it gives me an idea of the duration...

I tried to choose a character to put some colors, my goal is to have a non-contour render, and keep a "hand drawn" touch.

just a little update to show the colors of the city. i was thinking about paris in autumn, with red leaves and ocre buildings... Now i'll work on compositions to build them with maya.

model sheet, i don't know yet if she'll have pants, I think the skirt is funnier to animate when she'll move like a monkey ;)
I want to have this kind of design during the whole animation.

Hi jayf

Is always a pleasure look European style, very mature and personal, you pass this drawing to 3d? i really interesting to see this amazing style in 3d, not the usual 3d style is more like Spain Torres style or a graphics Tardi, very lucky i see your WIP.

PS - cool animatic! Although the end confuses me slightly - the animals at the end?

Here is an animation test, to see how the model moves. I animated it directly in flash, this is really cool to have fast results. But for the acting scene, I'll animate with pencils.
Here is the animation: TEST_CYCLE (http://jf.barthelemy.free.fr/strangebe/cycle_course_singe.mov)
Any comments?
Well, I'll work on the color keys, and environment. I think I'll make a mix between collage and 3d (with a lot of cam map :)

sadrack> thanks, but i won't pass it to 3d, I hate setup and rigging :p and 2d is not dead!

PinkParasol, siavashKhodaie> thaaanks ^^

nethken, FractalRene> yeah this model was made to be animated ^^
the animatic? huhu... the end is very approximative, in fact I wanted to show that the life in office is like a jungle (we see monkeys with their phone, etc.) but I don't have found the tip to make it understandable.

It looks very good! I'm glad to see 2d animation in here.

I'll second that. As much as I like 3D animation, it seems like the attitude today is that 2D animation is obsolete. Never mind all the brillant 2D animation that's been done over the years. I'm glad folks like you are keeping 2D animation alive -- and I very much like the style you're giving to this particular animation. Keep up the good work!

thanks to you vmulligan and csdani. Yeah, for the big studios 2d is obsolete, but i hope that is only transitory.
Even if I learned 3d, I still think that there are things you can't do with 3d animation (or with a crazy setup, and lot of patience!)

Hello!

Wow, I love that animation loop, its fantastic. My only crit would be maybe it could use a few more frames to add some more weight, but it may detract from the style and the speed of the run! So maybe not.

Ah! I see what you are doing now, with the animals at the end... Im not sure how to clarify that the office is like a jungle though. However, does that matter? because its very strange behaviour!

Cant wait to see more

And 2D is certainly not dead...

Absolutely. You don't throw away your hammer just because someone's invented a screwdriver :). There will always be a place for 2D animation.

I'm working on the environment, the colors, composition, etc... But, because the first shot is a matte painting with lots of cars, I need to have a simple. I'll use it, with different colors, on the road. I'll also use it when the girl jump on a car (it moves).

Well, not a great submission, but the next one is a lot of work (first shot).

overcontrast, gpepper> thanks a lot!! ^^

nethken> yes, this is a full speed run, but maybe there could be more weight... I decided to change the end, because this is not clear, and it is too long to make. I think I'll only show one monkey with a costume who would represent an annoying, violent boss... but I'm not sure.

vmulligan> "don't throw away your hammer just because someone's invented a screwdriver" Well chosen metaphore ^^
