the igloo in the night scene looks is if its made of stone and not of ice cubes.. maybe you should try some translucency on the stones, so they will have a nice blue-ish glow. could fit with the cartoon theme methinks

no way, the rendering time is alresy nearly 2 hours a frame, adding tranlucency and glowing would at least double that. they do look a little bit too solid, but ive got a deadline to work to.
cheers though, it should be finished in may, i'll post a link to the animation when i'm done.

wtf 2 hours ?? are you rendering imax res ??? O.o
i dont know Vray but that sure sounds like an awful long time for one frame. i would seriously have someone look into that for optimization
Hmm the lighting in the scene doesn't seem to be overly complicated... if your using GI, try using a lightdome script (I think e-light is a good one for Max? Or, GI_Joe for Maya! mmmm) instead of GI, and your render times should be much, much smoother and it'll still have the outdoor GI look :D

The problem comes from the volume light. even though theres 2 lights in the scene it still takes an age. the daytime scenes only take 5-6 mins each, so theres no problem with that. I've rendered this scene out now though so its out of the way, it took 6 1.5ghz P4's 4 days to render the whole scene out! i just feel lucky i've got acess to university machines.
cheers
