View Full Version : Want to mirror "strafe run right" to become "strafe run left"
Domarius 08-26-2007, 02:00 PM Hi, doing animations for www.thedarkmod.com (http://www.thedarkmod.com) here. I've animated a guy strafe running sideways to the right, now all I want to do is duplicate the entire anim, but running left.
It's going to be two seperate files. Run left, and run right.
I've looked at a lot of "mirroring" instructions on the web and here, but I can't get any of them to work.
I tried following http://www.alias.com/eng/support/motionbuilder/knowledgebase/S0126/MirrorCharacterAnimation.pdf but my character just seemed to be translating from left to right in the T pose position, still facing the same way.

the easy way is to just plot your chracter to the skeleton from the rig, set the mirror anim setting on (in the chracter settings mirror anim) plot back to the rig and it will show up mirrored.
You can then plot it back to the skeleton and it will bake the mirror back. you can then pick the root, rotate the skeleton to face the correct direction, select all the keyframes in the timeline and hit the "move keys" button and your anim should go to the left.

Excellent, I'm almost there!
Only thing right now is that the "move keys" part doesn't seem to work.
The anim mirrored correctly, so I select the root and turn the guy around to face the front.
I click in the black area around the man (In the Character Controls panel) to select all joints - that way all the key frames for all joints show up.
Then I select them all, and hit "move keys" as you said. (In the Key Controls panel)
When I play the animation back, he turns around to the back again after the first frame, and does the rest of the animation facing the wrong way again. Oddly, his let hand is higher in the air.
If you have any suggestions I'm listening - however I just realised it might be sufficient with him facing the wrong direction. We can specify rotation options on export in Doom 3.
