View Full Version : Character: Female face
Irfan 04-01-2003, 07:56 AM Hey all,
so this is the first time I am actually posting some of my work in this forum and also because Jed was pushing me to do so.
So here is a female face I finished a couple of weeks ago.
Modeled in 3dsmax, textured of course with Photoshop and rendered with Brazil using the new Skin shader :)
The first one is rendered using just a bunch of pointlights and for the second one I used a HDRI skylight with one pointlight.
I think I like the one without the skylight better but I guess it's just a matter of taste...
And I also updated my website a couple of days ago... :)

wow guy, incredible, i love her. Her nose seems a bit like she had a cough (or drunk too much wine) just joking :p. Perfect. I like the one with HDRI, perhaps because it's more desaturated, and his nose doesn't look red.
one more thing..just question of taste, her nose is too wide, and he looks more cough to me.
(nose nose nose...)
Apart of this..perfect, very pretty.
I like your work a lot Irfan, hoping to see it finished :applause:
Your box modelling a face videotutorial, was the best i've ever seen, it helped me a lot at the beginning. Thankss.
One last thing. I recommend you to post images directly in the forum, but from your web clicking on the Button "IMG" when you start a Thread, more people will answer for sure.

Irfan, to be honest...
You`re the most hated MAX artist... :)
I don`t like max, but it looks, with brazil it can do awesome images.
I like this female...

Welcome here, Irfan!!
Hope, you will post frequently because of your great talent!
I´d like to say you are my idol in 3d art
The face is really cool but I like your fantasy characters most (esp. Conan and Ork).
I think there is nothing to crit from my "greenhorn" point of view:D
Keep posting, man.

Wow, that is some of the best skin shading I have ever seen. I hate Brazil !! :p (Until they port it for Maya)

my master is back :D
great work but i'm missing the female appeal on the first picture, i'm defintaley not sure if it is a man or a woman really strange feeling ;)
but the head it self is really good! the skinshader and all those details are really great i just love it, give her some hair and she will be beautiful :)
the only thing i don't like this much is the form of the upper lip, its too round i guess but i can't explain in english :D
@jester... :surprised
:edit: Kann man dich irgendwie anders erreichen als mit dem cgtalk messenger? :):edit:

Wheee a lot of nice feedback! :D
The thing about her not looking very feminine is probably because I wanted to create a tough looking woman without make up to show the imperfections of the human face. I know she still has lipstick on but hey ;)
I just tried to avoid the ubercute and stylized look that a lot of cg female characters have and maybe I overdid it a bit.
I tried a couple of hairstyles but nothing looked good so far and I also didn't want to hide the ears and honestly, I kinda like that Sinnead O'Conner look :)
But all that might change once I have some time to finish up the body and put some clothes on her.
Thanks again,
-Irfan
To Neox: per email vielleicht?

Looks terrific!
I like the HDRI one better, too, but mostly because of the reflection in the eyes.

Wonderfully composed. From modeling to texture work.
Irfan have you tried V-ray? I work with both Brazil and V-ray,but have experienced many times that V-Ray can get the job done even better in some circumstances, depending on the situation or project.
By the way I love your character's "OGUD",The Wiggles character, and Tutenstien, among others, soooo many to choose from, very well done and fun to boot.
You are just down the coast from me here in Malibu,I have been very impressed with the talent coming out of Blur for some time now.And you are a perfect example of that. Very well done from this new creation to all your past efforts. 5 Star's from me.

DangerUs: You can find the video on my site under work. It's pretty old though.
Virtuoso: Haha nope. You know, I am one of the beta testers for Brazil and Steve Blackmon is sitting a couple of desks away from me so I wouldn't dare to use anything else ;)
And I don't want to with all the new goodies I have access to :)
But thanks for the suggestion and hello to Malibu :D
-Irfan
Wow!!! nothing to critique.... excellent work!!! any full body model? :applause:

This is pretty damn good!
The only crit from me,the area left to her nose tip seems a little bit over-sss in the sec image. (assuming you didn't put a bulb in her nostril :p )
Hope you will finish the body soon...can't wait to see it:beer:
By the way what's the render time ,may I ask?

Hi Irfan Celic , is Celic? My name is Luis Arizaga Rico and I'm from
Spain, I admire your work.
Is the first time that I see you doing a character that isn't a toon and you have amazed me with yor girl (she's perfect).
I emailed you one day with the head of your timelapsed video rendered in brazil only to show you that I could follow your video working hard, It was my first character in 3dmax and you told me that I had to do my own work. Yes! you were right, thanks for all your time reading me then and now.
This is the female on I'm working:
http://www.downstation.com/renders/chica.jpg
http://www.downstation.com/renders/chica5.jpg
I have to work with the textures, and is my first time
Could you recomend me some source of help or give some advise?
hi!! i don't know it very well, this may be a investigation post...i've brazil 1.0.5 and the shader that looks more like an skin shader is named Wax, it's one shader of the Brazil advanced mat.
...but i still don't get good results...
if somebody can guide me a little through a skin shading process...i'd be very glad, only 3 or 4 steps to go on.
Thanks ^^!!!!
ZeBoxx

To DDS,
The Wax shader is almost nothing like the Skin shader, or he'd just use Wax ;)
Skin is only available since v1.0.14 of Brazil r/s
For help on Wax, I suggest reading the manual or checking out the example files - both are available from your Account page.
Would be good if you updated whilst you were there :)

Richard Annema

to they guy that sed he hates 3dmax.. Y?? u r obviously not an artist. it is true that the artist makes the final picture. all the programs are EXACTLY the same. granted max is not the best but theres no way u can blame it on that. MAX 5 YEAH BABY!! :buttrock:
ZeBoxx: ups, i read 14 too fast...sorry. Understood.
ee01akk2: yeahh, max5 r00lz, like a lot, totally agree with U

Thanks again to everybody :)
To Luis: my name is Celik not Celic...
Your WIP looks good so far, just make sure you get the proportions right before you add too much detail.
A good ressource would be to get a fashion or fitness magazine ;o)
To DDS: As ZeBoxx said, it's the new Skinshader I used for this.
Thanks,
-Irfan
Georgeous. Exquisite. Cannot say more.
What are you going to do with her?
Your timelapse video. Is that supposed to be available through your site? I'm having trouble dl it.

ee01akk2: Hey, do not judge me after myopinion, eh. I am artist as well as most of us here. You can check it on http://www.3dluvr.com/jester , and believe me I have my reasons to hate max. I was working with max since the first release, and I spent a lot of money on it. In the beginning I was happy with it, and I was fanatic MAX user. But later on, I had a lot of problems with it...selection, workflow, etc, etc. That`s why I jumped to LW...
I think one can hate any tool, he dislikes. It`s not a problem. I hate MAX because I had bad experiences with it, but that`s all.
Jester
there is a difference between hate and dislikes :p
Irfan
04-04-2003, 09:21 AM
Goon: that's a problem with 3dluvr. You just have to left click on the icon and it opens another window which has the real link where you just right click and save the target as...
ee01akk2: A lot of times I hate max too but there are also a lot of times where I am happy to work in max because I know it inside out. ;)

dislike hate, its a pointless debate...I was fanatic max user as I told. It`s really just a tool. Tool as anything else. I hate MAX and dislike Maya. But sometimes I have to work with them.
But I do admire all people, who are capable doing such eyecandies like this female...
Hey Irfan, by the way. Could you show some behind the scene info? Wireframe, texture, etc. We are hungry for knowledge...

G'day,
Just to amend what Cuneyt said - evaluation users of Brazil r/s always have access to the latest material as well.
Evaluation versions can be requested through contact@splutterfish.com ; requests are handled on a case-by-case scenario.
