Hello all,

I’m having some trouble with Ultimapper. I have two objects, one low poly and one high poly that share the same space. I’ve applied UV’s to the low poly object, and with it selected I get Ultimapper. In its prop page I pick the high poly object, choose a save location, leave file type as Targa. I choose the maps that I want to create - I want to make a normal map. I set the quality options and hit the compute button - but nothing adjusts when I do this. Then I hit Generate, and files are created but at a 0 KB size. Has anyone experienced this and know what the problem is? I’m using XSI 5.11, and I also seem unable to make Rendermaps as well - I understand that Rendermap and Ultimapper use the same process, so I assume the problem is related.

I saw a similar post at XSIbase but no one responded to that poster.

I would appreciate any help.

Rename your user folder and relaunch XSI. Then try it again.

Thanks for the response Visualboo,

Thanks for the video as well. I renamed the file, and also deleted it so XSI would create a new one, but the problem is still there. It’s strange that when I hit the compute button, it doesn’t compute anything. I also noticed that after I do this, if I do a render que, any objects in the current pass render out as a dark grey silhouette - as if there is no light on, but is only lit by the ambience value, weird. If I delete the pass, then the rendering goes back to normal. My only option may be to reinstall XSI, though I wonder if it’s just one little setting somewhere deep in the program that accidentally turned off - who knows.

File?

Rename this folder C:\users\your user name

It will re-create it the next time you launch XSI. Maybe that's what you did. I was just confused by the file term you used, when it's a folder.

Hey, I fixed it.

If you go to start/programs/softimage products/softimage XSI 5.11/command prompt and then type runonce.bat and hit enter, XSI will re-register the DLLs and SPDL files. This has fixed the problem I was experiencing. This might be common knowledge, but I thought it good to post the fix in case someone doesn’t know.

I want to say thanks to Steve from Customer Support at Softimage for email me this fix.
