i did this one after watching a video tutorial from 3d-palace.com. i added a little twist to it. it is far from finished but i am happy i got this far and had it look like what i pictured it as. i have a lot to learn but i am getting there.

well its a good start but two major things i noticed, one i can see his neck popping into his mouth, and two it looks like his thumb is to thin add ackwardly bent, any ways keep working on it and be sure to post updates

Keep practicing. I'd try to tackle one thing at a time (in fact, I did). work on feeling those volumes and surfaces out. Get used to the geometry, then worry about textures and whatnot. Keep up the practice though!

this is a little better i think, although it still is not nearly finished.

added lights and mapped some color to him.

Please post a 3/4 perspective view...

so we can see more the side view...

just wondering if anyone has any suggestions, i dont know about the mesh around the knees. maybe i have too many tris instead of quads?

uh oh, you have found my flaws hiding on the side, looks like i got some more work to do

i have to read up on that. i am not sure how to reduce poly count besides lowering the iterations on the smooth. i could maybe tesselate? i tried to optimize but it only reduces 5 or 6 vertices. any hints u could give?

yeah u're right...;)

you need to work the side view (less cubic)

you have to model in "3D"

don't focus on one view and then another....and keep looking at the perspective view 45°

and a tip: don't use faces were you don't need them...

i will reply on the number of faces problem later ....

good luck!

Look at some other people's meshes and see how they create thier surfaces. That was the fastest way I was able to learn. As far as reduction. I don't think it's as much an issue with reduction as it is with placement of the verts. But I couldn't be totally sure without seeing a wireframe.
