Title: Fauna
Name: Szabolcs Matefy
Country: Hungary
Software: BodyPaint, XSI, ZBrush
I was always admiring the mythical creatures, so I combined my love for the female beauty and the myth. Base modelling and rendering were done in XSI, textures, details are done in Zbrush3, sky is Vue. I wanted to make a painterly looking image, and I think it came out almost exactly as I planned

Great looking artwork. The model looks very good. Nice work on the tree and vines. The grass looks a little weird, but it doens't detract from the overall piece. Nice job.

I think the overall outcome of this piece came together fairly well. A few crits that I would point out would be the horns, I feel like they could have received more texture detail to make them look less plastic feeling and more organic. The grapes encounter the same problem, they kinda remind me of those plastic types of fruit maybe if they were a little wet like you did so well with the water sliding down her breasts they would work better ... that is one of my most favorite things about this piece by the way, you pulled it off so well!!
Overall I feel like this is a very well done piece that I am glad to see the finished presentation of.

I hope you like it. There three passes, one for all nonhair objects with finalgather, arealight, etc, one for hairs, receiving shadows, occluded b objects, and one Shadow pass for shadows caste by hairs.
Skin was exclusively painted in ZBrush3, and MR fast_skin was used as shader.

awesome work, my only little crit would be something about the lighting which makes it look like a diorama. maybe it's because the sunlight looks too artifical and doesn't match the sky
cheers,
Bob

Awesome image. It stopped me in my tracks. Could you explain a little about why you used XSI vs. just zbrush so newbies like me can understand the pros and cons of different 3d software options?

Awsome work Mang! How did yah get the nice chunky fur on the legs? Fur plugin or polys with maps?
j3st3r
08-30-2007, 07:12 AM
Thanks the comments, I'm happy that you like the image!
DigitalThumbs: I think I'm not looking at zbrush and XSI in a versus relation, but they are working for me side by side. I like to model in XSI, and like the sculpt and texture in Zbrush. Its a lot easier to do things in XSI (for example making chains, ropes, duplicate geometry uv map them, etc), but there are tasks that zbrush is made for (like detailing, painting textures etc.). I will never drop XSI nor Zbrush in favour of the other, because I look at them as my right and left hand :)
lennygordon40: It's fur. I can post fur settings later, but I'm pretty sure, that it depends a lot on topology density under the fur, the scale of the model to be furred, etc. I was fighting with it a lot...

Fabulous work!
I fully agree with you on XSI and ZB having a really nice symbiotic relationship. There are many things XSI does better or exclusivley and vice versa. They really are a great team. I personally also add Mudbox to the equasion and have almost everything I could ask for to create pretty much anything I want.
Anyways, this is your thread and your triumph with this beauty of a Fauna!
I cant wait for your next work, so keep us posted!
PS: Would you let us in on dependencies you found between ie topology density and fur?!

Amazing!
[+] Model is detailed and portraited beyond my point of reference, everything speaks out to me with such strong emotion its almost uncanny.
[-] Surroundings does not feel as organic and lush as the model. The trunk of the tree has a bit much contrast or hilight and the sky feels flat.
Excellent work!
