Hey everyone,
I don't know how many of you are familiar with Skills Canada, but it's a national trades competition, and it just so happens that digital animation is one of the categories. The regionals just finished, and the top two teams of the regionals go to the provincials, and then the top team from each province goes to the nationals.

The regional and provincial competitions are 7 hours long each, and each team of two has one computer to work with. Everything you see was created, animated, rendered and composited in that 7 hours, including the storyboarding and model sheets. Programs used are 3ds Max5 with character studio 3, PS 6.0 and Premiere 6.

All files require DivX except for one, which is a 48 meg avi (that team didn't know how to use video compression... and that animation is mocap btw... all others were hand animated.)

So without further ado, the link to our region's entries:

Let us know which you like, rank them if you would be so kind, tell us why, and any comments you have are appreciated!!

I remember skills Canada, farthest I got was the regionals though :( I think I was a rare case though as I didn't have a partner. Anyways, the only two that worked for me were #1 and #10, the others didnt get past the intro sequences. odd. must be a codec issue.

I guess if I had to choose from the two I saw I would choose #10, I found that the mushroom guy had a little more character than bouncing mice and the story made a little more sense.

Well, that's my opinon, too bad I couldn't see them all :hmm: Good work

Boo

Ya, you'll need to dl the latest version of DivX at http://www.divx.com for those to work.

Thanks for the feedback.

Hey Cool! Last year (Grade 12, the first year I entered in it) I made it to the provincials (I finished 1st in the interior division, the Kamloops-Cariboo one, I can't remember the specific name). Certainly a lot of fun, especially for someone like me who isn't around CG peeps to often. Discreet was pretty good, I still proudly wear the free t-shirt they gave me, lol. Anyways, obviously I didn't finish in the top 3, but looking at others works, I think I did pretty good. I was the only person who did the competition by myself as well, which made things a little more difficult to say the least. The guys who won the provincials were great I must say, they certainly deserved it. Hope you do well
