View Full Version : Really Stupid Newbie ?'s

I am a dedicated Lightwaver, but thought I'd give Wings a try (I like what I'm seeing so far). I have a few really simple newbie-type questions:

I've tried all the camera options (3 button mouse here) and I'm wondering: Can you "move" the camera (side to side) as opposed to "rotate-orbit"? I'm used to LW where you can move/rotate/zoom, and I have the rotate/zoom down in Wings, but can I move the view? Or do I just "move" the whole object (thus defeating the purpose of the origin)?

Is there an equivelant to SubPatch in Wings? Is it Smooth? I'm not sure I understand this that well. Smooth seems to subpatch (sort of) but I don't see the kind of smoothing I expect with subpatch in LW. I know from the work I've seen that it can be done, but how? (Sorry if this is really obvious).

Anyone out there want to share their color schemes for selection, highlighting, etc.? I really am not fond of the BRIGHT colors used, but the default workspace is very easy on the eyes. If you've found colors that work well, I'd be interested to hear them (and this is thinking along the lines of 4-5 hours at the computer).

Well, that's it for now. I appreciate any replies, I know it's a pain to answer newbie questions, but at the same time you may have a convert on your hands (at least for some modelling chores). I love LW modeler, but the lack of true edges and the tools in Wings3d have me giving it a try.

Thanks in advance,
Brett

well the default camera mode is mirai which uses the arrow keys at any time
also once in camera mode you can press q to toggle between pan and rotate
go to camera options under the edit menu
there are many camera setups that wings has for users of other apps

there is no subd realtime editing if thats what you mean
you can do a preview by holding shift and pressing tab
and can use this in a second window for a constant preview
and smooth is the subd tool to increase the geometry res
tighten works like smooth in LW

go to edit preferences for the selection colors
just make them what ever colors you like :)
also you can go into edit ui and change additional colors there

cheers
